Is this a rep from Yamaha selling a commercial? I agree with whats is being said it just reads like a commercial is all.

Probably a dealer. Well, for starters, HP does matter. If this sled enters snocross at a professional level, it'll be competing against other sleds that weight the same but have twice the HP. If it runs in the entry level division, maybe it keeps up, but it will still be heavier. The FX with the good suspension is approaching 500 lbs, and that's still too much. And, if you boost the sled, snocross is not an option. I love Yammi too, but it sounds like you're counting chickens.........

I looked through the 07 Yamaha literature at the dealer yesterday and it shows the Phazer at 12000 rpm's with peak torque at 11000 so the gear reduction must be a little lower than the rx1, Ken.

I agree with ya superstroker the phazer may not be a snow-x sled now but the fx chassis has alot of potential. i'm buying a phazer fx and when they come out with more hp and more engineering marvels i'll trade up. a great start to a wicked line of machines.

Peak torque at 11,000 RPMS!? It has to be wicked quick out of the corners, and basically spot-on at bump bases, when you want it to be.
80HP in a 500# sled is really quite a bit, especially when the HP and torque are so close together. I believe it's going to pull harder than expected, and many people are going to be like:
"What the heck did Yamaha do to this thing!?" with a big pie-eating grin on their faces.
We've already seen a hybrid 120 race sled with the Phazer's front-end, which may be closer to what we'll see in the bigger classes.
If I could swing it, I'd keep my RX-1 for long day trips, and overnighters in Canada, and buy a Phazer, not an Attak. It just looks like you can have sooo much fun with it, and get it out of a ditch by yourself too.

Easy there killer.....while there have been some very dumb remarks, most have been merely addressing some potential issues and if you actually read through ~most~ of the posts and thoughts floating around the web, the common element is that:
* this is a very bold move from Yamaha
* filled the entry level niche they have been missing
* definite improvement in 4-stroke development
* looks are subjective, regardless of brand
* and probably the #1 feeling I sense is that the concept is great, just take it a bit farther with a bit less weight and some real hp and price it so that it isn't much out of this FX's price range.

Well yeah, of course. Take off more weight, give it more HP, AND make it cheap. That IS a great concept. Now let's see it!

The FX model weighs 467 lbs. SuperStroker is not a dealer, simply an enthusiast of the sport who used to be into the performance aspect in a big way and stepped away. The Phazer is going to be a fun little ditch/corner to corner/rough trail sled which is just what it was made out to be at a reasonable cost.

I didn't care for the look at first but after reading the specs and letting my brain, not my heavy right thumb, do the thinking I've changed my mind. I like it. Would love to test ride it.
If I ever come across one on the trails while riding my nytro, I will definitely flash the thumbs up and be respectful lest it kick my #*$&@.

As was said, the Phazer is going to need a little more under the hood before it will be a competitive snocrosser.
The Phazer will be a fun little sled and it lives up to its name. Just as the original Phazer set new standards for lightweight performance 2-stroke sleds in the '80s, the '07 Phazer will set new standards for lightweight performance 4-strokes.
I think the jury is still out as far as the engine goes. I have my doubts as to how well a dirtbike based engine that spins at 11,000 rpm is going to hold up. I would have preferred Yamaha make it a long-stroke twin similar to what the Vector has, but we'll see.
All in all, I love that Yamaha brought the Phazer name back. If I had $7000 laying around that I didnt know what to do with, Id buy one.

just watch, they are going to sell a pile of these sleds. just like the old phazers. gonna be alot of phazer variations on the trails next year! as far as i'm concerned 80hp is perfect, that is app. 30hp more than the old phazer and the old one was no slouch. look for a 100hp version next year
racing
Racing? 80HP 4/ with a possible 1000 rpm power band and a chassis designed to do it – verses 105 HP with a 250 rpm power band on extreme chassis as well. I’m told current day race sleds get in the mid 50HP at the track. Ya - I’m surprised at that figure to. What can the 4/ do?
I remember in about 1998 watching near 100HP Doo’s get smoked by the Yamaha XT’s at the Barrie snocross race track. They had the course with a long flat straight and the Yamaha’s absolutely flew – with a lot less HP –supposedly. Oh - they only smoked them in that section – just one straight,
Ok – so the Yamaha chassis has never been really conducive to snocross in the past. We won’t get into that – as they were designed as a good trail sled.
I think 80HP 4/ would be in the hunt. Another thing – in dirt flat track racing – 4/’s dominate cause they get it down smooth – I’ve seen several dudes (years ago) come out with TZ Yamaha’s with almost double the HP and get smoked.
In terrain racing – it’s the package that wins.
The only concern is fuel mapping – it’s probably too lean thru most of the mid range and only competitively rich at WOT. If the mapping can be changed or fooled – then that would really help. A set of flat slides would be awesome – but then it’s not stock.
