I just got done watching the LCQ x-games race...Sorry...but I need to vent...as a loyal yamaha racing fan...I think their sno cross effort the past two years has been pathetic!!! Have they even made a final this year???

Some of you may be too young to realize, that when snocross first started in the 80's..Yamaha used to dominate!!!! They had guys like Tim Bender, Guy Useldinger, Steve Houle, and Jim Wergin totally kickin azz!!!

And of course on the ovals...Yamahas were tough to beat from the 70's through the early 90's (until they outlawed the vmax 4 from formula III).

My point is..if you look at supercross, or road racing Yamaha has some of the top drivers in the sport. IMO their snowmobile racing effort is lackluster. If it wasn't for a handful of very good independant race teams over the past 10-15 yrs...yamaha would have totally been a has been on the track.

I know yamaha has won the I-500 the past few years...but what else have they done??? Have they even won a heat race at eagle river in the past 5 years?? How many x-games titles have been won on a yamaha??? Has yamaha ever had a high points crown in snocross???

Good thing I bought a used arctic cat this year...at least I can cheer for a winner in snocross once in awhile....and can actually go to eagle river and see a brand I own on the track (other than on vintage weekend).

Again I don't mean to offend...but I had to vent...it really sad to see how poorly yamaha sleds do racing on the major circuts. I guess I'll kick back and read my old scrap book with photos of yamahas past glorys.

Snocross racing in no way directly reflects the way the average consumer rides his snowmobile, but is an excellent test bed for component, chassis and engine development.Just because they are not winning does not reflect that they are not learning or developing a better product for the consumer. You also have to keep in mind that Yamaha has more product that races in other forms(roadracing, supercross, supermotard, atv racing, watercraft racing, snocross, enduro, etc) than the other 3,which in turn allows them to draw on R&D from the other divisions. The only reason that the other 3 excell in the sno x arena is because they have spent more time and money there. For example look at the new "RUSH" no way will that stand up in the sno x arena but it might work well in the consumer market because it is more geared towards the norm instead of the extreme.

True...IMO Yamaha and Bombi have the resources to dominate...Snocross may well help build better sleds for trail use...but who is gonna buy them if they don't win??? "I bought my yamaha cause it consistantly finishes 5 th in the LCQ races"...lmao!!!

1999 Nathan Titus was leading the pro open class in points and lost the points lead at the last race of the season to #7c Blair.
Titus wore the #2 on a SX chassis sled.SX 700.Proto MONO susp.
I have pics somewhere.
Doug Henry also raced well after some time on the sleds as he came from moto cross.

Im sure the Yamaha snowcross team is trying their best with what they have to race with.Race sleds are a work in progress and Yamaha may unveil a new one in feb-- if rumors are true.
2 years on the Nytro may mean time for a little design change.

new here but if you buy a sled because what it does on a snocross track and no other reason you need to rethink how you buy....

They do win the big endurance races. That means more to me than seeing if they can hold together for 15 laps on a sno scross track. I-500 and last year Cains Quest across labrador. In the end that still has no bearing on why I buy Yamaha. Most reliable, longest lasting, great resale, and best fit and finish in the market.

Are you joking??? Yamaha said " what they develope in snocross would be applied to their consumer sleds". So...if that's what yamaha is saying...and they have only one podium in snocross in 3 years aboard the nytro...what does that tell you about their sleds (in particular the nytro)??

If the only thing that matters to you is fuel economy, and epa compliance...then you are right...it doesn't matter what they do on a snocross track...if performance, handling and ride are important...and that stuff trickles down to their trail sleds through developement on the snocross track...and you look at the last 3 yrs on a snocross track...things don't look very good for yamaha.

Chris Vincent won the pro-open championship in 97 or 98?

I haven't seen too many Apex's winning on the sno cross circuit...does that mean I made a bad decesion. And I guess you have a ferarri in your driveway cause they won a lot of F1 over the years. Can't ever remember Ford or VW winning F1 so guess I made bad decesions ther as well :)

Not many people in america even know what cains quest is..the I-500 wins are tainted...ALL of the other teams have cryed foul about the "much bigger, much faster 4 strokes" running that race..AND yamaha had one of the best racers in that event (Cory Davidson-who is no longer on a yamaha). If yamaha wants to impress they need to win the IRONDOG.

I won't disagree with anybody on yamaha reliability..it's top notch..nobody else even comes close. Fit and finish is also very good...IMO they seem to be lacking in handling, ride and performance out of the box.

I agree Yamaha either needs a whole new chassis or switch two a 2 cylinder 4 stroke. The 3 has the power, but it still maybe too heavy... I heard it's not that much between the 2 stroke sleds and the NYtro race sled. But this is what I only heard, but I don't know for sure... If it's not the motor, than they need to start some new engineering on the Nytro because it's not getting it done..

I bought an RX because it looked like a great touring lake racer. I'm not interested in snowcross and in no way want a snowcross machine.

I want a performance touring sled made for groomed trails and high speeds. I want a lake racer that can carve the big sweepers at eye watering speeds.

The Nytro is not the type of sled I would buy. The Apex long track is more my style! A Apex based Venture would be the best sled I could buy. I think Yamaha is building a perfect sled in the four cylinder.

I'm only saying this because not everyone wants a snowcross sled. I will agree though win on Sunday sell on Monday is a saying from the past that worked.

Every sled change get closer the snowcross that many want. it just doesn't come fast enough for some.
