Hello Guys,
Got another one. Last ride, felt a vibration. Found a rear wheel bearing that was shot, and a few bad idler bearings, that i am replacing. The big news was that the speedometer side drive shaft bearing was all torn up. I took the plate off that holds it in, and out came a bearing, and it was all torn up. The cover seems ok, and i seemed to catch it before the damage went beyond the bearing itself.

Taking it apart wasn't too bad, followed a YouTube on a 10' Vector, that was pretty similar to get apart.

Problem is, when i get the new one on, their is a flange on the outer part of the bearing, that doesn't let it set in as far as the original. I am using an NTN Bearing ASS205NR (Funny first 3 letters for sure!)

I will upload a few pictures...

OK - Took retaining clip off, and the groove just seems to be for the clip, and it doesn't appear to hold a cover or the bearing together. Going to leave off and try to re-install.

That clip you can leave off. It's for applications other than Yamaha.

You're lucky you caught it before it destroyed the speedo sensor. It sucks when it does.

Thanks! It worked much better. Of course, i had already torked the plate a bit, but i straightened it out, and it was much easier to put on and went in. Still a small space vs the original bearing, but plenty to use the set screws and seems good to go. Will find out riding tomorrow in Maine...

Wait until you have to change the bearing behind your secondary clutch!
What a treat that was!
I had a 2008, where the engine failed under warranty, and was failing again when I traded it, but anyway,
I noticed this bearing was failing because I could move the secondary clutch up and down a few mm.
Initially you'll think that you'll have to take apart the chaincase, and remove the shaft, because of the bearing having a tapered insert, with a big nut on the back of it.
Someone on this site had a tutorial on how to change it, and that worked great!
Once you have the new bearing in your hand, you'll see what I mean.
You'll need to make your own bearing puller, and use a heat gun as posted.

Just clean and regrease both every season and they'll last forever. Tutorial on that too.

Yes, especially the jackshaft as it isn't exposed to moisture.
Even if the lower needs changed, it is rather easy.

I do repack all bearings, every season, and yet it still failed.
Nothing lasts forever.

You could switch to the 6305 and get rid of wedge, like newer versions.

got 11000 mi out of a speedo brg with annual repacking before it cut the inner race in 1/2.
