In '09 I tried an XP. I sold my much-enjoyed '06 Attak because the XP handling is & remains the best in the biz. I bought a 600 Etec, the handling was awesome, so much so that I was driving way too fast, the handling was amazing. The 600 Etec lacked power so I sold it & bought an '11 XR 1200 4tec. Although the XR 1200 lacks Yamaha refinement, & although it doesn't handle as well as the XP, it handles far, far better than the Yamahas. I have had zero/zip/nadda troubles w/this 1200, not even hiccup. Do NOT buy an 800 Etec. It's based on the 800R engine & to this day, the Doo 800 is unreliable & problematic. It's simply too lean & despite all the anti-detonate wizardry, the engine is a high-strung time bomb. I'm a Yamaha loyalist (or was until they aligned w/AC - now I'm moving on). But I also want a sled that doesn't lift skis in the corners & want a sled that is lightweight which is not something Yamaha offers. Yam dropped the ball in this regard & they have/will continue to lose market share. The XR1200 has been the best overall sled I've owned so far.
Ride on.
