Yamaha's Big Year 2011

4 cylinder 150 hp goes away and a 3 cylinder 150 hp appears. fx nytro probably remains, but you will have a new name for the nytro chassis with the 150 hp motor. apex name plate will disappear and the vector will remain in the same chassis. i'll stand by my other post saying a phazer motor in a vector as a lighter entry level trail sled.

I have to think that nytro motor has 15hp left in it with fuel and air along with cam or head design changes.

"but what do I know?"

I think there a lot of riders, myself included and I have been riding dirt bikes since age 4, that aren't real hip on the FX chassis so I hope that Yamaha retains some iteration of the Deltabox II for the big bore sleds. My wife had a Phazer MTX and one of my riding buddies had a Nytro MTX and I wasn't impressed with either even for boondocking which is mostly what we do. I think there is weight to lose on that chassis (DB II) and either an updated R-1 engine or the Yamacharger right from the factory to get it more inline with the other OEM big bores is a must. I think they could lose 20-25 pounds out of the skid by putting in the Pro-Mountain Air skid and another 10-15 with a lighter seat and exhaust, trim some fat off of the nose by moving the battery to the back and lightening the airbox. There probably is a little left in the Nytro motor, but I don't think you will ever get the torque out of a 3 holer that you get out of the 4. Just my $.02

I won't second guess Yammi anymore .....just does not happen....never saw 144 Nytro XTX coming thought 136 but not 144. Also thought new turbo coming on new platform in 09 to replace Apex then nothing for 2 model years more. Apex LTX GT still best in class for 2010 price & complete sled considered. Doo coming closer with GSX 4tech but don't need heated seat & front shocks lack clickers & no hooked handle bars:( Push button adjustable rear air shock hits mark. Apex LTX GT still best of class for now.

Why the need for power steering? I have seen that mentioned several times before. I really don't see power steering as a performance enhancement. It would just add more weight wouldn't it?

I thought it was a gimmick too until I rode a Grizz w/it. Amazing difference and my first thought was to wonder how it would work on a sled. I don't think it is "if" it is more like "when" we will see this on a sled. Maybe not all models, but there is a place for it in my opinion.

Power steering is best left to quads. Its great going slow with some big arse tires on. It really helps you manuevre. But have you ever had one up to 60mph? It is so unsafe at any high speed with power sterring because of the fact the steering is so "light", how would that translate into a sled at 60mph going on hardpack? I would imagine the same. Really twitchy steering.

I think power steering on a quad was to reduce the feedback to the bars from rutted trails. Everyone is asking Yamaha to reduce weight, and adding a power steering servo isn't the way to do that. If you want a heated seat, buy an 09 Phazer - one ride and I burned my #*$&@ for 165 miles - I took the heat shield from my 07 FX and put it under the seat.

I'm not saying this is what I want or what the fringe riding public wants, just predicting what they will do. They have to look for ways to reduce the number of models to reduce the cost of production. I still would like to see you be able to order a Yamaha Snowmobile without a track and ski's, cause I've never ran one with the factory supplied track and ski's.
