It's actually a really nice kit, comes with everything. This kits was for the apex and was $59.95 CND and came with, 3 liters of oil, filter, two gaskets , gloves, key chain , oil change reminder sticker, and 4 pg. of instructions. My oil change kit for my Polaris RzR came only with oil and filter'. Really nice job Yamaha ;)! I did consider Mobile 1, 0W20 but only for that extra performace....But I never considered using anything other than a Yamaha Oil Filter...

interesting Yamalube YouTube video http://youtu.be/3s1wuweZJzw

That is a nice kit, and I'm glad to see they have lowered the prices some, but keep in mind that is Semi Syn oil, not full synthetic.

No offence, but I laugh at that video everytime as they compare a Yamaha filter to likely the worst filter on the market, the Fram

Not saying the Yamaha filter is a bad choice, but I just don't like paying double for one when I think the Hi-Flo filters I use are every bit as good but cost less than half price. (purchased 2 Hi-Flo's a couple days ago for $18.50 OTD)

Yeah, wanted Fully Syn...but NOT 40w....too thick and would rob RPM's IMO...wish they Yamalube had a 20 or 30w...then I would jump to Fully

havn't seen any diff in power or rpm between 0w30 semi or 0w40 syn sled's at 10.800 shift speed regardless which oil down the lake i only notice that cold cranking rpm seem faster.
nice kit though

4 pages of instructions eh - must be quite the process. Don't suppose you would mind posting the instruction sheets here? As for the gaskets - I guess Yamaha recommends changing them also - how many guys do that? So one gasket for the drain plug and what is the second one for? I'm also wondering why Yamaha uses semi-synthetic oil rather than full synthetic?

Irv,
Where do you get the Hi-Flo filters and how would you know the right one for a particular model? My VL is off warranty so if a cheaper/better option is available that is good. $18.99 is a bit pricey for a filter but if we leave it on for the KM's that Yamaha specs allow it is not a big deal.

thanks,

Sorry I threw out the instuctions, IMO the owners manual was better anyways....for example..the instuctions says nothing about starting the sled after 2 liters then add the rest...this step is important cause of the dry sump, pumping the oil from the tank into the motor then youll have room to add the rest of the oil.

Second they say nothing about cleaning out the metal screen on the oil tank...mine was dirty as hell (thanks TY)

As for the gaskets, one for the drain plug gasket on the oil tank and the other on the drain plug under the motor...(you must drain the oil from both area's)

As for the oil filter...watch this video...I'd stay stock IMO... Yamalube YouTube video http://youtu.be/3s1wuweZJzw

Just remove the hose off the bottom of the tank and remove the 2 allen screws to get the screen out.

Yeah, I should have taken off the hose...i pulled on everthing and left hose in place...bent the screen a tad..

I bought that same kit but did not get the key chain or the gloves. I wish I had known about the screen as I have never pulled it out.

thanks,

I get mine at Clarington Cycle in Hampton Ont, he sells them exclusively and he services all brands of motorcycles, atv's and sleds.

Mine is a HF-147 which is the shorter one compared to the Apex.
Can you change your filter from underneath your sled or is your's like the Apex?

I would assume most motorcycle/atv/sled type after market places could or should have them?
Do a search in here, I'm sure you will be able to find what you need and possibly who out your way carries them?
Great filter imo ;)!

thanks,
The VL is like the Phazer - so not easy to get at.
I hear that the Venture TF is easier probably like the Vector.
