I've yet to change the oil in my sled but if it cost 60 bucks that's crazy. I can't see more than 25.

That's nuts. Even if you pay list from a dealer, I can't see paying more than $50 from a dealer.
I have never heard of replacing the gasket seal either.

$8 bucks a quart and filters from yamaha are $13 it adds up faster then you think.

Yamaha filter kinda sucks imo. There is a study out there on the internet that has them all cut open. Fram and Yamaha scored real low. K&N-303 I think was the number for a good filter and same price as the dealer wants for stock. Syn oil in Canada is around $10 quart. Oil plug is a copper washer and does not wear out unless you drop it in your drain pan. I run Amsoil 0w - 40 4-Stroke and swear by it. Likely go to a pep boy in US and get all this stuff for around $50.
P.S. Don't overfill the oil I heard bad things happen

I have to change the oil and was in the Walmart with the GF and ended up in the auto section where they have 0-30 syntech castor oil for $6.87.Now I have always used the amsoil.Does anyone have any info on the syntech as it seems to cheap in price, the 10W30 was $2 more?

I dont know if oil can be called expensive, some places it is more than others and every one uses a different oil, but i would pay 100$ for good oil and a filter, i figure that after buying my sled oil is the cheapest insurance out there, i change it once a season just so i know what is in it, small piece of mind when i a on a long trip

You just have to be sure it is "wet clutch" compatible. Amsoil 0w - 40 4 stroke stuff says it right on the back. The starter is in the oil and I have heard that it can cause problems if it is not compatible. Also I believe that they recommend a 0w - 40 in full synthetic.
I totally agree about buy the right stuff. Why cheap out when it is once a season. Buy an extra quart in case it eats some during the season or you roll it and it pukes some out. DO NOT over fill it I heard bad things happen with the dry sump setup. If you can find the K&N filter I would buy it. You know it is a good one and then you can get a couple of seasons on it and just dump the oil if you are not a high mile driver.
Not an expert just my opinion and experience take it for what it is worth. If you got carbs clean them as well while you have half the sled apart to change the filter. All idle problems go away with clean carbs. Lots of tech notes on this and do not take it lightly of how clean to be. I had mine off three times last season before I got all the crap out of the system. Now it runs great and I can get the idle up around 1600 to get rid of that annoying reduction gear rattle.
