Hi Guys,
What are you running for engine oil in your sled? I was told that you can run castrol or other oils and save big money. Yamalube is 9.00 a quart now! Tell me what you use

Once a year, however many miles that works out to. Unless you do really high mileage, like 5000+, then twice a year.

I usually top out at 2100 or so. This year I am just under 1500. Not bad for the limited snow in Maine. One more quick question..... do you dump the oil into oil tank only or do you dump some into the engine as well as the oil tank?

Oil goes in the tank, not the engine.

Thanks LazyBastard....

I use Amisol 0-40 Full synthetic, chaged it after break in...
When to change
One more question guys. Is it better to change it in the spring before storage or in the fall after you bring it out?
Thanks.

In spring before storage. Theory says it gets the old nasty oil out of there so it doesn't corrode the internals during lay-up. Let it sit all summer in the fresh clean stuff and you're ready to ride come next winter.

One thing to take into consideration is that the oil will loose it's "cling" to the internal parts after a couple months, so starting the engine every 6 wks. - 2 mos. is a good idea so that come fall\winter you don't fire up a "dry" engine.
I've heard that synthetic "clings" longer, but I woudn't take the chance.

Refer to the manual for the oil change cycles, you can't go wrong.

What are you guys running for chaincase oil? I had the dealer change it @ 300 miles when I had the oil changed. I'm planning on changing the oil and chaincase again at the end of the riding season myself and would like to run a synthetic in the case. What kind and how much? Thanks Doug
