Tore down my 08 rtx to check exhaust leak. Found ypipes to be cracked Ordered new ones today along with new donut gaskets. Stripped sled down to bare tunnel, just wandering if I have to pull flex pipes to remove Ypipes or is there another way to free them where they slide in & hook up in the tunnel and fasten by the 2 allen screw bolts??? Thanks for any advice here. First time tackeling this one! Wayne.

Pulling flex pipes make job easier IMO. Otherwise you will be moving the back end of exhaust...muffler and mid pipe etc. Somthing has to give to make room for the y pipes.

Thanks Guys! I read the step by step thread & have everything to the point where I can remove the flex pipes so I'll go ahead with that. I did notice it said to reuse the flex pipe gaskets. Is this a good idea & if so should I use a high heat silicone as well when reinstalling them. Also I had the Yamaha dealer tell me I should replace all clamps. Is this necessary? If so I'll add it to my growing list of parts.
Thanks again guys! "Good advice builds confidence"

I have had mine apart a couple of times and I reuse the clamps with no problems. You may want to check out the rivets that hold the bracket to the tunnel where your y-pipes are bolted to. I also ground a little of the clamps that hold the y-pipes to the flex pipes. I changed my stock y-pipes out with 6000 plus miles on them and they still looked like new.

Did you pull the flex pipes to remove the Y pipes Richie? I think I'll reuse the clamps. What is the reason for grinding the clamps?? Is it to gain more bite on the gaskets??

Yes I removed the flex pipes from the motor. I also reused those gaskets with hi temp silicone.I put never seize on all the bolts when I did mine. It will make it much easier next time you do it. If your bracket is loose it is a good time to drill the rivets out and replace them with stainless bolts and nylock nuts.

Thanks I'll let you guys know how it goes when I get a chance to finish up with it. Gotta work the next couple days.

Finally got around to reassembling my exhaust. Followed the instructions & advice from you guys. Torqued everything to spec. Runs quiet & leak free. Hopfully don't have to do this anytime soon again but when the time comes it should be a lot easier & a whole lot faster.
Thanks again Guys
