Went to the local Arctic Cat dealer at lunch to price a set of skis and started talking about the ZR7000 LTD. Talking about speed and the dealer swore up and down that the Cat is a 97 MPH sled bone stock. I said BS and he talked me into taking their demo out for a ride. Sure enough bone stock I got it up to 95. My question what is the difference between the two? Skis, shocks, clutching and fuel map.. anything else?

My 16 pantera limited pulled 96 mph. After reading about the vipers and everything people are adding on, I think I made the right choice.

I need to find out if the jackshafts are different

Yes they are.
We have a 14' Xf7000 and it's always done well as far as speed compared to what some stock clutch Viper owners have complained about. I got mid 90's on the second ride no problem without room to hold it to go faster. It hits 100-101 in really hard conditions. I have seen 106-107 (forgot which) in superb conditions but not all ice. get it any faste. Of course you won't see these speeds when you start pushing any snow or it's softer. That's with a clutch kit and muffler only. No airbox mod or anything else.

Hmmm.. I was ready to spend another grand on my Viper, maybe letting my better half ride the Viper and me getting a Cat is the better option. Really, it was a nice setup with QS3s all around, two clicks on the dial and it rode completely different. The dealer claims that the 7000 with the 1049 and the 6000 with the 600 Ctec are running essentially the same top speed with the 600 being a little quicker on the low end and the 7000 being stronger mid range.
You guys are nuts. My buddy with a 7000 complains about conditions just as much as I do and he is almost always following me. He has never seen 107mph and never will till he gets more power. Clutching is not the answer to more speed or consistency. It needs to be right but that's easy on either setup. Power is the tricky and expensive part. Both are same in that department. Only advantage I found in the Cat clutches is they are smoother with roller setup. Does not give even 1 mph on top end though.

your dealer is on drugs...i ride with a 14 cat 6000 nearly every ride and i can say without a doubt the 7000 is a crap ton stronger low end and mid range and pulls away on the big end...they are close speed wise but the 2 stroke doesnt have near the torque we do. Ive rode his a few times and i cant wait to get back to mine...the throttle response and pull is way better on the 7000.Hmmm.. Everyone said cat clutches are crap and what not when i bought mine...9000kms and ive never had a belt let go...last one lasted over 5000kms before i decided to change it...its uber smooth and not once had any problems

stock to stock my wife's zr7000ltd was faster then my viper rtx (exactly the same machine except viper has 2ply track and cat has single ply track) but in my defence she is 100lb lighter then me! I've would have liked to switch with her and try again but she doesn't let me ride her machine!!
She says i'm to haywire and is scrared I ll break her cat.
Both are nice machines I found that there are a few spots that the fit and finish is nicer on the viper such as gloss black vent on cab, the rad came with a protective mesh on it (cat didn't)

They are just as condition dependent as the Viper. I don't know if the Cat clutching makes a big difference compared to stock Viper clutching or not, but as I mentioned, the low speeds complained about by some struggling to get mid 90's in excellent conditions are lower than I see. Dont believe over 105 is doable with just a muffler for added power? I don't exaggerate numbers. I'll go out and do it again once the snow on the lake melts some and gets hard with the go-pro strapped just for you. You can do my next shock revalve for free when you eat crow. Lol!
I wouldn't spend the money to swap to Cat clutching if I owned a Viper. I wouldn't expect to see the same top end numbers on the new team clutches Cat swapped to either.
