Havent ridden a whole lot in 2 years but noticed when first starting out, sometimes the rpm doesnt come down as quickly as it normally does, maybe hanging around 2500 or so for a few seconds, then down 1500. Doesnt have that off throttle burble when like that either. After a few miles its fine. Just curious.

I think it’s normal. I have a 2021 with 23000kms and it’s been doing it since new. I find after initial cold start the idle hangs at each stop until I let it sit a few seconds then it idles down. After that initial idle down it doesn’t hang anymore. Asked the Dealer about it and the mechanic was unsure of why?

Thanks! I saw where a 22 T cat did the same thing. Rolls free like a 2 stroke when doing it. I stopped for a minute or so and the temp climbed to 185 and on restart was normal the rest of the time so thought it had something to do with temp.

Mine (270hp tuned) has done this since brand new, every now and then. Seems to get a little better with warmer temps, but still does it. While cold it can sometimes roll before the RPMs drop.

Yes, its not all the time. But always after first starting, never the rest of the day.
Mine is stock and runs consistent all the time so this was noticeable..and yeah..itll roll free sometimes for a ways. Once gone, it slows normally. Thought it was my imagination!

Thanks! Not bad, Just got back from grooming, got stuck 4 times. Skandic v800, it hates me. The older 500 fan 2 stroke skandic likes me! lol
Always groom alone especially after 70 yrs old....!!! Wheres the youngens? They like to braap but disappear when work to be done!

Most kids (not all) live in a different state of mind. My nephew worked for me, and he stated," I'm making you rich" lol.
When I worked for others, it was my goal to make them money. Job security, raises, etc.
So I'm not exactly sure what happened. Lol!

Its a different world today!

I just wanted to add that my Viper does that same idle hang on the first run of the morning. It doesn't matter how long I allow it to idle down to 1500 RPM, after moving again, it will still hang. This behavior persists through the first key cycle (run) after it's warm.

I suspect this is an idle air control valve learned position that happens only shortly after the vehicle is started and reaches a certain temp. Parasitic loads are high on the first start of the morning due to the oil not being up to operating temp so the IAC has a learned value that is slightly more open than needed - hence the idle hang. Restart and it relearns the needed IAC open percentage and you're good for the rest of the day.

I know the Viper and Winder use ECU's from different MFG's, but this behavior seems to be present in both.

I was thinking the same. If I shut it off, its perfect the rest of the day. Once I went 4 miles and it kept the hanging rpm, more like a 2 stroke, so just shut it off and was fine. Seems to be heat related somehow, as once the temp was over 170, it corrected itself. And shutting it off, it gets warm quick...thanks for the info!
