    Installing reverse on '03 RX1

reverse on the '03 yamajim You are correct on the o-ring. The collar that goes on the jackshaft has a 25mm o-ring in it. As I slid it on the jackshaft, over the keyway, the o-ring caught and sliced a chunk out of it. Polish the sharp edge on the keyway a little and lube the o-ring in the...

Lets hear about the RX-1s fuel milage.

gas mileage Mileage goes down considerably if you have to tow an Articrap out of the woods twice in 2 days too. Put a real damper on 2 days of great riding

    what oil

oil Lazy I agree. You have to be real careful what you are mixing when it comes to synthetic and mineral. I think most synthetics these days can be mixed with mineral but I prefer not to. If you HAVE TO mix, read the bottle....Better yet, stick with what's in it to top it off and do...

    Oil Change

I did the first change at 550 miles. I typically ride about 1000 per year so I'm planning on changing it every spring when I get it ready for summer storage. I've always stored cars, cycles, tractors, etc. with fresh oil rather than leave the dirty stuff sitting in it for extended periods. I...

Lets hear about the RX-1s fuel milage.

mpg The 10 gallon capacity of the fuel tank is not necessarily the useable amount of fuel in the tank. I haven't pushed the '03 RX to the bottom of the tank to find out what useable is and hopefully never will. I checked gas mileage a couple times during the first 600 miles and it was a...

    Installing reverse on '03 RX1

reverse I used Amsoil synthetic to refill the chaincase. I run synthetic oils and lubes in everything I own. I ended up taking a polishing stone to the back of the keyway to remove the sharp edge so it wouldn't shear off the o-ring. I oiled it up and put it on with a twist but without...

    Installing reverse on '03 RX1

reverse That is spec'd to 35 ft/lb...got it. I'm not much of a gear head but I am fanatical about using the torque wrench. Thanks for the pointer. (The boys used to rib me because I didn't have my torque wrench on the trail when I changed the plugs on the old Vmax)

    Installing reverse on '03 RX1

reverse Instructions were pretty clear. I did the job in about 4 hours which I thought was pretty good since I'm more of a rider than a wrencher. The only problem I had was a sheared o-ring in the collar. It hit the end of the keyway cut in the shaft and sliced the o-ring in 2. I picked up...

    Oil Change

According to the manual the right side cover and the bottom panel have to be removed to change the oil. Is that necessary?

Whats' the best type of lock for trailers?

Propane torch I keep a propane torch in the cab of the truck. A few seconds of heat and all the ice melts and water dries up. Works great.

    '03 Mountain trim

Last years mountain sled came with a pair of trim plates that ran between the side of the front bumper and the side of hood. It filled in the 'notch' in the hood above the front suspension and gave it a more 'rounded out' appearance. Anyone know where I can get a pair of those?
