I am currently using the Yamaha oil too. Just wanted to get thoughts on what others are running instead of the Yamaha chaincase oil.

Does anyone have any thoughts on the GL-3 gear oil that is recommended? Most oils I see now are for GL-4 and GL-5 applications? I hear that GL-5 gear oils are potentially corrosive to softer metals such as copper...due to the EP additives. The chaincase does have a few copper washers in it...

Did you guys replace the rubber gasket with the same P/N that was removed (90480-10012-00)? I see that it is a different P/N for the 2008's?

Isn't the Mobil 1 Synthetic 75W-90 gear oil a GL-5 rating? Are you guys worried about this potentially eating away at the softer components, such as the brass washers in the chaincase? I heard the GL-5 oil can attack brass, bronze, etc. Maybe that is why Yamaha specifies the use of a GL-3 oil...

I am experiencing the same issue. I have the chaincase cover, top gear, and chain off. I see the feeder tube for the reverse gearbox. Is there anyway to replace the tube and rubber gasket without pulling the top bearing and completely removing the reverse gearbox? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Yes, that is the silver colored piece that connects the a-arms to the skis. Check out the picture in my first post. I am a happy Yamaha customer as of now! :Rockon:

Update: The local Yamaha dealership replaced the ball joints AND both steering knuckles for free! Fantastic customer service. The service rep actually called Yamaha and discussed the issue and Yamaha replaced the steering knuckles under their "goodwill program."

^^Great info, thanks. I will do some looking at the ACT's as well. I am seeing a lot of front shocks that are around 17" center to center...can I install these on my MTX? What would be the pros and/or cons to installing a front shock that is approx 1.5" longer?

OK. I was able to do some google searching and found the following lengths for the front shocks: Extended length: 15.50" Compressed length: 11.30"

Does 13" center to center sound about right for the length of the (front) rear shock? Thanks for the input on that. Much appreciated. Does anyone have the lengths for the fronts?

Are there specific years/models that run the sc4 shocks? I am not too familiar with doo's.
