WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK ABOUT THE TRACKS ON THESE RX1S??? I HAVE A 2003 WITH 144 STUDS AND AM THINKING OF GOING TO THE RIPSAW WHICH IS STOCK ON THE 04'S. COMMENTS?????

Just get rid of the 03 track, It doesn't matter what you do after that, it will be an improvement.

I have an 03 RX-1 with the original track and it is also studed, comparing it to the past years Yamaha tracks I don't see a problem with it. Good trackion, quiet and light.
When and if I blow it and if I still have this same sled then I'll replace it with a new and improved track. My riding is primarily fast smooth groomed trails and my past experience with taller lug tracks proved that I will loose top-end with them, I can't have that !! So in short you must ask yourself, What kind of performance are you looking for in a track because the choices are many !!

Well said motorhead, you and i are on the same page plus same state, long big trails for wfo running,i guess if you have never ridden under these conditions than you cant understand why we still like this track, this is why i havent changed it out yet, well actually i did,my stock finger got roasted, drag racing,so i bought a take off from tom at hartman per. got a good deal, now i could of bought an other style but i liked it that much for top speed. :D

Hardpack trails and lakes are fine just don't go in the deep stuff. It doesn't like loose snow either. Remember motorhead, you have 192 megabites in your track.

Stock track worked great for me too! I did put 120 gold diggers up the middle. This was the first time in thirty years of riding that I have ever put studs in a track. I will stud from now on!! What an improvement!! Honk

2003 track

I don't think the track is bad either. I have a 192 studs, it is a great track for packed or groomed trails. It doesn't work well off trail but neither does the sled.

Changed to the ripsaw this year . From what i have found 250km on new one 5005 km on old one the ripsaw is well worth putting on . have not noticed topend loss but midrange is far better and the ripsaw holds very well from the side without studs .

This has been gone over a lot on this site, and here's my exact comments about last years track.

 Burn it, sell it, whatever you havae to do. Unless of course you would like a 1" lug to hookup the RX, or have the lugs break off, or start tearing.

I guess I meant to say it's junk

Mighty, I agree with your perseption concerning that style track and deep snow, but you must remember that the front end of these machines don't like the deep snow either. That's why I state that I primarily ride smooth fast groomed trails with this sled, I have and have had many sleds which performed much better in the deep than my RX-1, but on the kind of trails that I mostly ride on, the RX-1 is great !! One other point , hyfax wear increases with longer lug tracks on FAST trails!! That's why in trying to help someone decide what style track they want, riding style & expected conditions are only 2 of the many questions that must be answered.
With that said I'm sure that the Ripsaw track is a cut above my track in most conditions, and I also learned the hard way about the importance of studs many years ago, so I did not forget about my 192 Megabites. Later Mighty, and you have a Merry Christmass :D

In my opinion if you are a groomed trail rider and you like to boogie, nothing beats a studded track. It just gives you peace of mind when your pushing it into the corners. I have a srx with a 136" 1.375" track and it is great in the snow but hit ice and it gets a little skittish. I feel safer and more confident with studs. 2000 hard miles on rx-1 stock finger 192 studs without any lug damage.

Hey Leeko,
I agree they can save you from a quick mishap.

Wow that's an aggressive stud pattern, how many scratch lines does that pattern put out !

I would trade the sled, in for a F7 "Before spending more cash" that will not make any difference.
