Has anyone else had battery problems with their 05? My sled sits inside, I hooked up my optimate in May. It never fully charged up and I tried starting it yesterday and it was completely DEAD.
Thanks, Jim

Check the 30 amp fuse where the jumper pig tails lead to. There are 2 auto fuse's. The one closest to the front bumper was blown on mine. Try hooking the charger up righ tto the battery.

This fuse on mine was blown, no current gets to the battery if its bad. I almost bought a new battery until I discovered this.

Thanks everyone, and yes, Lazy, they did change the battery in 05. A weight thing. I'll check fuses/try charging direct, and if that fails, call my dealer and get the skinny. It should last more than 1 year, especially when I have a charger on it,
Thanks, Jim

I could be wrong, but I thought it was only the "lightweight" non reverse 05 RX-1 that got the light battery.

Any problems?.... (ask anyone else on here and they'll say I've had tons of problems...do a search if you like...).

No problems at all with the charging system or battery.

10,300kms on a 05 RX-1.....i'm truly envious. I wish I had time to do that

yes I have a problem with the battery in my 05. It was dead on me the second to the last ride last year. I thought I may have left the key on, so I jumped it and ran all day with no problem. last ride of the year no problem. Then two weeks after I put it away I went to start it and it was dead again. Took it to the dealer and they replaced it.

Mine will drain if it is left to sit, but that is not exactly a bad thing. It is best to let a dry cell in storage sit dead.

You can buy a Battery Tender for less than $20 and it will cycle it all summer. I just drop the leads to the jump leads.

Yea the 03 rocks the extra weight is fine with me. It sat all summer again stock 03 Battery it had tons of juice left in her! I rin my stuff out of gas so i had to crank on her for along time!

did have a friend that had a lot of trouble, but he was shutting off sled with kill switch & not key. That will put a drain on battery. He ruined 2 batterys before he figured it out. Went all year last year with no problems.

My dealer told me that we should be using a desulfater-charger. If fact he gives one with the purchase of a new sled. It's about a 50 dollar charger but it's a pretty nice unit. My Harley dealer told me the same thing about the Harley Batteries.

I pulled mine last year and let it sit inside. I pulled it out last week and it was still at about 12.3 volts on a meter. The desulfater-charger charges different than a regular charger and when it's done it will also tell you via LED's weather the battery is good/weak or sulfated.
I use it on everything. Seems to be much better than a traditonal charger due to how it can charge, maintain and then tell you if it's not holding a charge.
Made by Tec Mate and it's called the OptiMate III.
I just leave it hooked up when I come back from riding since it monitors and maintains at the same time. Pretty slick unit.
