Next weekend a few of us are getting together for an afternoon of 660' ft racing on hard packed snow and one of the guys [really cocky] has an 05' F7, I was just wondering how the 05' RX1 will make out against the F7?
Also, is there much difference between the Apex and the 05' RX1, I know the Apex has an extra 5Hp but just wondering if they'd be much quicker in 660' ft?
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated thanks!!

Well i was at those exact type races a week ago and it was around 0 celcius and i can tell ya, the F7's were smoking the rx-1's. Now keep in mind, the F7's have about a 50-75lb advantage on the rx-1's...

I ride with 3 f-7's, and the 05 with direct diamond drive is a pooch, spank city. The 03 beats me in a long race on top end but not by much. The 04 is about even. Keep in mind I am running an Ulmer racing stage III clutch kit which is damn impressive.

I have raced MANY F7's my buds 03 is close, but I usually beat him, his 05 snow pro will not top end with my 03 RX and I hook up alot better on ice or packed snow. Another guy has an F7 with timing key, reeds and clutching, he will top end me on radar by 2 mph, but from a heads up race I get him out of the hole and he cant pass me in the 1/4 mile.

I also beat up on on apex gt and two attacks (they were all realy tight less than 200 miles)

My motor and clutching are bone stock, I do have a ZRT .850 track, ski doo sc10-III skid and 144 1.25" studs.

If you are set up at all, it will be to close to call (unless he has the 1-3/8" track) then you will win.

Thanks guys!!! It's nice to know what I'm up against, I'll let you know the results but it won't be till next Sunday.

Well, I raced an 03 F7 today in 660' on a hard-packed snow track and he spanked me.

I am running filters, Ulmer Stage III clutching and a 1.5" Intense track (136"). I think my gearing is killing me, I'm running 22/39 right now, but I think I'll be heading back to 23 or 24 on top.

I would get the F7 out of the hole, but he would pull 3-4 sled lengths on me from 400' to 660' and win.

I thought that the overdrive effect of the machined helix would allow me to compensate for the lower gearing, but apparently not enough.

Any suggestions?

A friend and myself both have 05's with ecp kits. Have been riding the past few weeks, and we both spank our buddies new F8. Also ride with an apex, he doesn't have quite the hole shot we have, and we can also take him on top end. Good luck!!!!

03 F7 is the fastest after that cat just keeps slowing them down(thanks articat).

My buddy had a 03f7 ,you dont want to do roll ons with that sled.Find the deepest snow you can and line em up the skinny 1" track on them is trench city from a dead stop.

The 1.5" track is whats killing me on top... gearing needs to go back to a reasonable level too i.e. a 23 or 24T top gear, maybe then I'll get some top end back.

So, what's your secret set-up? Care to share?

No secrets, my friends only has ecp kit with red spring,165 jet. Suspension on max transfer, and no clutch kit. Runs 10,500RPM. Mine has ecp with silver spring, 165 jets and a hauck primary spring. Suspension on max transfer, runs 10500-10600 right away when you hit it. Creeps to 11000 on hard pack or ice, way to high, it's killing my top end. I installed both kits, set pilot at 2 turns out and synced carbs when i was done.
Both have 144 studs!!!!!!!

We were on a lake last week by Eagle River, WI racing in fluffy snow. Friend took off and stood sled STRAIGHT UP, hopped off the back and had to push it back over before it fell on him. Never saw anything like it on ice with fluffy snow!!!!!!!!

660 ft track will be a challange for the RX, Firecat's run gooood in 660 ft, The only wat you'll win is if your studded to the max and he's not,Dont forget the 03 F7 is the fastest year built but the 05's are quick also. Now if you want to talk lake running then its over before you even start, F7 doesnt have the top end you do.

660' is all we have, so I have to work on setting up for that distance. Hopefully I won't have to gear down any further or it will ruin my sled's trail manners.

f7 vs. rx

I've beat plenty of F-7s with my '05 Rx-1. The advantage was at top end, however. Since you're only running 660', I'd say that will be a lot tougher chore. I would imagine, it would all be in the gearing.
