06 Apex cranks no start

A friend just bought a new used 2006 Apex. Picked it up Tuesday and we loaded it up Thursday. We put two hundred miles on it Friday and Saturday. (has 7000 miles on it). Went to start it today for a half day ride and no start. Owner said it was idling a little rough Saturday night. Last ride of the day was only 3 miles. Weather is high 20s. Engine turns OK but it acts as if it is an engine with a distributor cap with water in it. (I have been an auto mechanic for 30 year and was just getting better with the two strokes.) It is firing at the wrong time. We pulled the plugs. They did not look that old and all had gas on them. the second one from the left was black fouled. We installed fresh ones with no difference.. To me it sounds like a cam sensor. It appears to be firing but at the wrong time. I know nothing about these but now is the the time to learn. I see no code number on the display. Should I? We drug it back on the trailer and brought it home. I would like to get this fixed soon because I have other project to finish. I there a step by step flow chart to follow? Battery is good and we tried to start it with a charger on it on the jump setting. I have searched a lot of threads and the only one close said it was a stator problem. Thanks for your help.

Usually it will throw a code but its the first signs of a crank sensor going out.. When you turn on the key can you hear the fuel pump running for a few seconds?
 
Is this what Yamaha calls a speed sensor? Is there a resistance specification?
 
I am having the same issue with an 07 with 4500 miles. The sled turns over can smell fuel but seems like it jumped timing. Crank sensor is in with mag coil. Plug is gray and black wire. Test is pos. test prob to gray neg to black. Resistance is 445~545 at 20° C (68°f).
 
My 07 has same issue no start in heated garage no action at the relays. No spark either far as my issue.

Did find wires on# 4 cylinder of coil where touching pulled them apart and tapped wondering if wire fired and loosing connection

one bad ground wire on the block I hooked the wires together on the burnt ground block.


Last was fuel pump wire at tank was repaired once and chewed or rubbed threw. Only few strands of wires where lift so I cut that out and added new wire.

Could one of these issues burn the ecu?
 
Many more knowledgeable than I will answer but I'd say no, I have never seen it reported on this site and there are tons of mice, chaffed wire and grounding block reports and I've never seen the ECU go as a result.

does the stator create spark or should sled run with out stator it just charges the battery like a alternator correct?
 
The crank sensor(or pickup coil) tells it when to spark. They were many failures on 06 and 07's. Test the wires as someone else mentioned. Usually when these go, there will be a number 12 displayed on the dash.
As far as ECU's go, it is almost unheard of. If they do fail, it is almost always due to someone tampering or using wrong electrical parts on sled.

Thanks I’ll test the wires coming from the stator? Or witch is crank sensor this sleds got way to many sensors. this my first four stroke sled they sure are a confusing, I also have 6” bar raiser. Got er_1 code. First then bunch soon after. But with wires touching and bad connections the other codes have reason to be on. Ecu picks up the change and after fixing the wires that did delete some of the other codes I was getting. 13 84 85. 85 I can also make disappear by holding the throttle just right. Making me think the ecu still good if that’s the brain of the sled
 
The crank sensor wires are at the front of sled, by voltage regulator. Gray and black.
That riser I would think is too tall, and will cause issues. Cut it shorter.

Thanks the air pressure sensor ever go bad if did would it keep it from starting ?

Is the crank sensor connected to the stator wires. Going to volt regulator

No.
The wires come out of the same bunch of wires, because they come out of the engine.
 
This plug if so

I unplugged it tested it on ohms got 5 ohms testing plug that comes out motor
