Posted this before and snow conditions were mostly to blame but it is later in the year and I have been on many different condions and the most I have seen is 10100 RPM (only once on ice covered road). Highest GPS speed I have seen is 96MPH (108 Dreameter). I have put two different new 8DN belts on. Belt squeals once in a while at idle. Sled was purchased used with 1200 miles. It now has over 2000. I was told the clutching is stock and it appears to be. Also I do not see the washers everone is talking about to set belt deflection so I am either not very bright or I don't have any and maybe this is the problem. I didn't get an owners manuel so does anyone have a picture of where these washers are. The way the clutch is it looks like the belt has another 1/2 an inch before reaching the top of the primary. This is my first yamaha and the sled runs great but should be faster than it is. I also added 192 studs this week. Will this bring the RPMS down even more. I have not riden it with the studs yet. Thank you for any input you have.

I dont think adding the studs will lower your rpms at all, it may reduce top speed but probably not by much. My 07 GT has 192 studs and pulls 10500, also have ran 125 dream o meter (112 gps) on a hardpack road several times.

Adding washers moves the bolts out of the 'hole' making the opposing pulley they sit against move closer, making your belt tighter. Usually with new belts, the washers get removed so it pushes the pulley away, allowing for a wider new belt. Try tightening up your helix a little..it's not too hard to do, but go one step at a time under the same conditions and see if you gain any shift rpm. My 06 rtx could only pull low 10's at our fall grass drags (hooking good in clay), but once it snows and I get a little slippage, it pulls just below 11 grand...big difference in speed...like high 80's in 500 feet with the low rpm and mid 90's with the higher rpm. One time I spun a lot on the holeshot, pulled about 10,800, and finally..lol...beat this pesky well tuned Machz triple (ck3) pretty handily...all the other low rpm runs I could just run even...again, on grass in 500 feet. You need high 10's to really get her going, imo. If I was serious, I would have clutched it for the day, but it's just for fun, and I usually run the lights...and eat hot dogs..lol

Pic on strip, with early fart around snowfall in Nov. Banners and lane markers all removed. Tower on left is at 500 feet. Traffic lights for start/stop...lotsa fun..usually...lol
