I'm debating buying a 05 Viper Mtn or an 06 Apex Mtn. I think the Viper is under tracked (144) and under hp but a track stretch and pipes can fix that.

I like the track size on the Apex and the motor and, well, everything about the sled except the weight. I ride a 96 Phazer now that wieghs 415lbs. The guy I ride with snow checked a 07 Skidoo Himark. How does the Apex ride....I've heard it hides the weight and is a good performer but I've not been able to ride one.

Just want a little comfort before dropping my sweat earned bucks on one...

I like riding in the mtn meadows carving powder and doing a few modest drops....is the Apex the way to go? The Phazer has never been a climber so I'm looking forwrd to that...

apex

I rode the apex a couple times and now picked up a 07 apex mtn in july.
The whole around package is awesome. They do everything great carve, jump and climb. You won't be dissapointed.Yes it does hide the weight very well except when you bury it but then again every sled is a work out when your digging it out.

Stock Apex vers a piped and stretched viper ==== Apex with out a doubt. I've owned both and the apex in box stock form is a great sled. they are very nimble in good snow. If your on hardpack then the long track, aggresive skis, and weight will wear you down by the end of the day. BUT, this normally only happens in the spring. I wouldnt even consider the 2-smoke but thats just me :) Eric

Thanks guys! Put a deposit down on an 06! Pick it up in 2wks after they have services it and installed a few goodies (skid plate and hand gaurds).

SRXSRULE - Can you guys recommend hand gaurds? I'm putting the hand gaurds on for wind protection as the grips are above the windshield. What do you think of the Yamaha skid plate?

How do you find the hand warmers? I've heard thier is an update out for 06's to upgrade to '07 hand/thumb warmers.

I like the Acerbis hand guards w/ powermadd mounts on mine. Skid plate is a MUST! I found my hand warmers ok, but have not seen the 07 Mtn. bars to decide if I want the switch. My hands stay warm, but I can't dry my gloves out like on other sleds.

LOL......thats funny stuff!

If you plan to mountain ride the sled and you do much off trail hand gaurds are a complete waste of money. They get broke off MANY times. I personally dont use "mickey mouse ears" on my sleds.

The stock hand warmers are very poor if you wear thign gloves or ride in cold temps. I spent alot of time cutting, welding, wiring an extra set of heaters inside my bars and now they get smoking hot.
But yes, you can get the new 07 bars with better heaters as an "upgrade" option. You do have to pay something like 25-30.00 and they includes the bars and labor. Eric

I will admit that I have snapped off my fair share of guards... But they did an excellent job of protecting my hands in the bush.

Guess I'll try without gaurds and see how it goes. I have ridden in some cold weather and found (even on my Phazer) that at 100km/hr and -20C body parts get cold fast!

I'm going to go crazy waiting! I need to be able to walk out in the garage every evening and fire it up! Sweet soundsin machine!
