If anyone has been following the trend, dealers get soo many 1-2 yr. old trades - some with warranties, that they eventually stop taking them in. That should tell you something about the true value of buying a new sled. Patience, and buying used is your best friend when it comes to saving money in this sport.
If you were buying a 2-stroke then I could see why a brand new sled would be important, especially to get the 2nd year engine warranty. An '06 Attak for $6800 in its debut season is a steal, the depreciation is already taken out of the equation, and then some. You might lose $1000 between now and next season, but why would you sell it so soon anyway? So it has some miles on it, you don't have an all black tunnel, or fancy clicker shocks up front, or BLUE flame graphics - Whoop-tee-do, go buy them with the money you saved. I put a Nytro seat on my '04, and it feels like an '06. Either way you lose money no matter what. So why not lose the least amount as possible, and enjoy the same sled that you will wait 8 months for, right now?
IMHO: The '06's are great sleds, no matter what color, or graphics package. The '07's are pretty much "more of the same". Much like buying an '04 vs. '03 except for the 100+ updates. Maybe a few more options, but with what you'll save buying used, you could modify it, and lose even more money in the end if you wanted.
It's not such a big deal to everyone, but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that these things are worse than used cars when it comes to depreciation. Maybe that's why they call them snowmobiles.
