There is a small amount of oil to drain from the block, but you'll add all the oil back to the system through the oil tank only. There is one socket head bolt in the oil pan near the back/middle of the oil pan, its not hard to tell which one it is.
Should hold just short of 3.5 qts with filter. Check the oil level without screwing the dip stick into the tank.

3.5qts? Why did the oil change kit I bought from Yamaha only come with three bottles?

My Apex only calls for 3 litres when changing the oil filter, 2.8 if you don't. Three bottles and you are fine.

You got 3 litres, and if changing the filter you will need one more to top it off. Must remove the headlight pod, battery and battery box to access the filter if changing it too. Doesn't require changing the filter every oil change, I change it every second oil change but even thats more than Yam spec. You should remove the lower tube on the oil tank to clean the screen in there, mine has always been clean but I have heard of some blocking with debris. I always put a half litre or so from the top of the motor as there is a fill on the Valve Cover. Difficult to get to and make sure not to drop it as it can get lost down there pretty easily. Don't forget to warm it up to check the level, when running boards get warm, shut it off and pull the dip stick in the oil tank, clean & put back NOT Threaded, level should be between #marks. Good luck!

Frank, the Apex oil change kit came with a new filter and only three litres of oil. Hope it's enough. My buddy got the kit for his Nytro and it came with 4 litres.

Same as last kit I bought for my Apex. Will probably have to buy an extra litre but make sure to warm it up first before checking, also remember dipstick doesn't get screwed in, just dipped.

According to the service manual, for an '06 Apex it lists a Periodic oil change capacity of 2.8L/2.5 Imp qt/3.0US qt (without filter), with oil filter change is listed as 3.0L/2.6Imp qt/3.2 US qt, and a total ammount of 3.8L/3.3 Imp qt/4.0 US qt.
I didn't realize you were dealing with liters and not a US qt, so the 3 liters you have should be enough.
There's been lots of discussions here regarding oil over the years, but if it's not always easy to get the Yamaha oil where you live/ride, don't be afraid to use a good name-brand synthetic oil either, if it's easier to get.
I ran Mobil 1 in my sled since new, and just in the last couple seasons switched to using Royal Purple, and it's never given me any issues. Just make sure you always have a little extra, just in case!
