I have an old -00ecu in my 07' turbo'd phazer. It turns over for 10-40 seconds before it will fire. If it fires...
I have the new ecu on order to help with a piece of mind.
Talking with a bunch of long time yammy sled heads, the issue is more from the decompression arms then from the tuning. There are new springs to tighten the decompression arms on the exhaust cam shaft. We all know this and on the newer sleds this is std issue.
Next time your phazer wont fire within the first 5 rotations. Take your gloven, mitt, rag or whatever. Jam it in the exhaust pipe, hold in place and turn it over. It will fire up right awAy every time!
Minus 15c my sled started up after being outside all night

Some replaced only the ECU and the starting was improved with just that. Apparently it has something to do with oil pressure build up before the ECU allows the engine to start. Now it doesn't wait for the oil pressure.

yea I got the computer installed too seemed to spin it faster but it is 50 in my shop so after I get the new slides on I am kicking it outside on Sat when the high is supposed to be a high of -8 see how it works. Also changed to 0W 40 Yamalube full synthetic in it, cause I am not shure the oil that was in it before was the right stuff from the PO

I have the cold start update but it'll still crank over a bunch-
What I do is just turn the key on/ off a couple times letting the FI do it's thing to "prime" it a bit.
Seems to whirl over to a quicker start.
