Hey guys,
Picked up an 07 phazer fx over the weekend. It has all the recalls done except the grounding block, which my dealer said they will do for free. It also has the radiator fan, and tunnel side skirts.
I have a few questions:
1)Do the side skirts work? If not, should I remove all of them or just the back set if I close off the tunnel?
2)I was going to have a friend reinforce the rear suspension arm and link. He just needs to weld gussets on the arm, and re-weld around the existing welds on the links? thats it?
3)I would like to add a kill tether. Which tether is good and budget friendly?
4)Are there any slightly larger wheels I can just swap in to raise that front shock slightly higher from the bottom of the track, or do I need to purchase the whole kit from scmidt bros?
5)I am also toying with the idea of just stretching it to 136 before the season if i can find a cheap 136. good idea?
Any input or recommendations greatly appreciated!

1. If you install the rear block off kit Yamaha recommends you remove the rear side skirts. Front ones can stay unless you plug the front hole.
3. I installed a Seadog Normally Closed tether. It was $15. You can also use an Artic Car Normally Closed tether - they are around $20. Here is the link to my install: http://www.ty4stroke.com/threads/my-tether-install.97610/#post-860267
Prices are in Canadian $ since you didn't specify where you are from.

2) Also check the pivot that connects the front and rear links. The original was a steel piece that broke. Check the FAQ for info.
3) Ditto for the Cat tether but don't use the cheap Kimpex version. Very poor quality.
4) Excell 135mm wheels. Nothing else needed. Kimpex also has some, looks like a late model stock wheel but uses cheap Chinese bearings. Excell uses NTN. Both are ~$30.
5) A lot of people have done it and like it.

I have not had it done yet, but I believe the service tech said it is just a two foot length of wire that they swap out. I guess the old one is prone to melting?

One of the wires on the wiring harness? Haven't heard of that issue maybe once or twice on these forms

Some of the early Phazers experienced a melted grounding block. It's located on the wiring harness that runs between the oil tank and radiator. It's yellow and taped up. The update adds another block with a separate ground wire.

I don't know. You would have to check if you have two ground blocks. If you don't, I don't think Yamaha is covering it. It was a quality assurance thing. If yours is melted, you could plead your case with Yamaha to cover at least the cost of the parts.
Yamaha is still covering that update as of last week. However those that already had fan update don't need it.

The ground block is Service Bulletin S2009-008. Its too big for me to upload here. If you PM me your email address I can send it. The actual wiring is around $15 if you want to do it yourself. Its PZ50 Sub-Harness Kit.
