Hi Guys. Wondering if there are any previous posts on replacing the rear bogey wheels on the VL. and, are you able to just replace the bearings? Thanks much

Take one off and see if there's a circlip holding the bearing in.

if the rear wheel looks similar to this
odds are the bearings are not replaceable.

If it's the original wheels, no. They are the solid grey and black with three lightning "hooks" design on them, like @maim showed above. Get the newer style with replaceable bearings, IIRC from 2010+ Apex. They are all black spoked design. Funny thing is that the newer replaceable bearing style is cheaper than the original.

take a few pictures with your phone so it is easier to reassemble as i can do it in my sleep by now. the way i do it,
1-back off rear axle nut to top of threads
2-smack on end of shaft on nut with a rubber hammer or a peice of wood and a regular hammer so that shaft moves
3-back off track tension through windows on track
4-remove nut and then tap out shaft. do not loose the washers that go against the inside and outside of the rail
5-keep the spacers in order for easier assembly
6-replace wheels/bearings as needed. a good time to do this mod if it has not already been done. https://totallyamaha.com/snowmobiles/aaTECH/4th_wheel_kit.htm
7-put back together in reverse order of disassembly making sure that the adjusters point the right way and the washer is present on both sides of the rail
8-snug nut enough to hold wheel in place. do not tighten fully as it makes it harder to set track tension
9-set track tension. i like to tighten it so that the centre of the track is almost 1/4"-1/2" off of the sliders.
10-start sled and spin track to check track alignment. adjust to centre it as needed.
11-tighten/torque rear axle nut
12-check that all parts are in place properly by trying to turn the long spacer tube between the rails. when everything is in place properly and tightened, you cannot turn this tube by hand.
i had an oops a few times when i forgot a washer out of place and had to remove the suspension to get the rails repaired from it running loose.

If your wheels are original, check all your wheels, including the upper ones, which can only be replaced by pulling the skid. Might be worth it to pull the skid to go over everything.

Maim, this is just perfect. Ty sooo much. Did you ever have a problem getting the shaft loose? I’ve loaded it with wd40 for now…… cheerstake a few pictures with your phone so it is easier to reassemble as i can do it in my sleep by now. the way i do it,

Thanks Mooseman, definately will check the others, not sure if i'm up for pulling the skid, (assuming thats the track?)If your wheels are original, check all your wheels, including the upper ones, which can only be replaced by pulling the skid. It's the rear suspension system. The track stays in place while you wrestle the skid out. Putting it back in is the harder (of course).

i did a 2011 vk540 III that the shaft was seized in the spacers. i got the nut off no problem but it would not move and i was hitting the tool RobX-1 put the picture up of with a 6lb sledge. bent the tool to look like an s and i ended up cutting the shaft out and saving the spacers with a 60t press. do not try and remove the bolt in it as it is pinned in there and you will screw up the shaft.Maim, this is just perfect.
