What has been people's experiences with dealers making the 07 updates on machines out of warranty?
Last spring I bought a couple of 07's (DX w/150mi, and FX w/3K) for my wife and son. Took their serial numbers to the dealer and they looked them up. The FX had never even been registered w/Yamaha for warranty (must have just been sold
). They said that there was a recall that needed to be done on both (probably the Steering Idler Arm Nut Bulletin).
I doubt any of the updates have been done to either machine. Has anyone had any luck getting a dealer to perform these updates on out of warranty machines? Does it depend on the service manager/stealer? Am I wasting my breath trying to get them to update them?
Just trying to figure out a strategy when I take them in for the recall.
Thanks,

All the factory "updates" are done by any Yamaha dealer free. All you need is your serial# and they enter it into the system and if they arent done they will do it.But its a bad time of year to ask.The wait will be long.

That's what I was hoping to hear. I read a couple of reference to being SOL because they were out of warranty, wouldn't do upgrade until it failed (skid updates), etc. so I was starting to get worried.
Agreed. Poor timing. Advantage is that we are on the southern edge of the snow belt, so I don't think the dealers do as much work on sleds as they do further north, so hopefully, they won't be as busy.

I was told by my dealer this week that updates for the 07's are done. Luckily, I had all mine done. But I have another situation......I bought my phazer in 08 as a leftover, brand new. I have since put only 900 miles on the machine... ( I failed to mention in other posts that I have a 600revho as well. 06, 4000 trouble free miles.). anyway, upon further investigation before the season starts, I found that the phazer needs inner tie rod ends. I did say 900 miles right? What the "who" with this sled. For lack of better terms.
There is no way I should be replacing them after 900 miles. What a fun sled.....but I have never worked on a sled more than this one in my life. I feel like driving it right through yamaha headquarters front door.
I really needed this rant.

Ok we get it the 07s had issues. Do your research and never buy a first year anything unless you understand that you are a guinea pig. The internet has info on anything you might ever want to buy. I understand that you guys with the 07s are frustrated but damn it gets old. Sorry im off my soap box now.

I had all the recall work done in the fall on mine. They had no idea what I was talking about with the cold start update though

My dealer contacted Yamaha about updates, Yamaha wont cover updates if your sled is out of warranty. The only ones they cover will be the ones dealing directly with saftey ie Ball joints. ground wire harness.
They wont cover fan and suspension updates.

Soul_hammer. I am not new to sleds. I also knew what I was buying when I bought it. Sometimes people just have to rant a little. I do enjoy the phazer... very fun machine. Just some issues. Yamaha fixed the recall issues. Just wish the steering was a bit more sound. The tie rod end mentioned in my post above may just have been defective. maybe its my riding style... don't know. I would have thought it would have lasted longer is all. My dealer claims he has never seen one go. but confirmed mine was bad. And you guys with the newer models have the same ends.
