My Buddys got an 08 Nytro that the starter needs a rebuild. Looking for some advise on getting the old one out and the rebuild back in with ease and few problems.
Any one pull one of these out?

I never actually pulled mine out as it is not an easy job....you have to pull the front sub frame off and tilt the engine forward. How do you know it needs to be rebuilt? In my case the engine kicked back which caused a chain reaction..basically everything to do with the starter had to be replaced ( and I mean everything )..

Mainly an assumption, on the starter rebuild. Try to start the sled with a screw driver and we got nothing. Tried the same on another 09 nytro and got it to start. It just clicked when you try to start it, even under full battery power

Dont forget about the starter relay, it will just click when it is bad. And the best make sure the kill switch is in the UP position. Just sayin sometimes the dumb stuff is the last you check.

We tried two new relays, they still just clicked so it can hardly be that. Kill switch was pulled up, key on. Does anyone have some step by step instructions with a few pictures on getting that starter out?

Thanks

In the FX Nytro FAQ's you can download the service manual and it kinda shows how to get at it. It is down back by the oil filter so take the skid plate and plastic off and then check it from there. Might find the battery cable is loose or grounded.

front sub frame has to come off and engine has to be tilted forward..been there, done that...you can NOT get at it from underneath..just a crappy job altogether.

That sucks!! If you are in that far and have the sub off, get some supports and weld them on, I think Grizztracks was making them.

Does not sound fun, but we will probably try it this weekend. I may have more questions or I'll let you guys know how it goes.

Incorrect.
Remove steering shaft
loosen radiator but don't need to dump coolant
Loosen the rear motor mount
Remove the front motor mount
Remove the sway bar
Remove the oil filter
Tilt the FRONT of the motor UP
It's tight but I did mine from underneath
I supported and lifted the front of the motor with a pair of bar clamps and a piece of wood across the subframe

How did you get underneath...when you tilt the motor forward you would have to remove the starter from the top no? When I looked at mine from underneath, there was no possible way to pull it out from the bottom as it will not fit down through the area where the front cooler attachs to on the tunnel. I'm going but what my told me when he replaced mine, and he is a Yammi tech.

The rear mount is well above the starter, so when the front of the motor is raised (pivoting on the rear mount bolt) the bottom of the motor moves forward away from the heat exchanger. The forward swing of the bottom end is why I had to remove the swaybar.
I also had to unbolt the muffler mounts to allow the exhaust to move slightly rearward (exhaust is above the rear mount).

How was it to remove that swaybar. I tryed doing that and the only way I could was to remove the whole subframe.
