08 stock nytro 3500 kms,,, lent it to my brother, and he caught it on fire..

not very proud of this because im an automotive mechanic and shoulda known better..

noticed my pads were getting down on the ride the day before..
brother was rippen it and he said it got kinda sluggish and when he looked down he seen flames comin outta the hood,,,,
in a huge panic bro managed to get plastics off and put out fire..

looks like pads wore down to far, piston came outta the caliper to far kicked sideways and #*$&@ the brake fluid onto the rotor..
burnt lower have of battery, main power and ground wire,, oil level sender wires and some others.. lets just say it coulda been alot worse,, bro removed caliper and went brakless for the rest of the ride... reqs seal kit ,pads and 2 new caliper pistons. and some wire repairs.

on another note, the only reason i lent it to him was because his polaris blew up the weekend before, but no worries he picked up a new 2010 nytro the next day...

Hmmm, I've never replaced a set of brake pads on any mountain sled I've owned. Some of them have had 10,000+ kms on them.

I've had to replace mine twice a year for the two years I have owned it.

My guess to what happened is that snow can get behind the lever and cause them to stick on. Thus creating a ton a heat and wearing the pads out. Just normal use on a mountain sled would not get them hot enough.

I have had my breaks sizzling a couple times and have to basically force the lever out to break up the snow/ice causing it not to go all the way out.
