Hopefully someone can help me!! The throttle side hand grip warmer on my 08 Nytro RTX does not really get hot, maybe luke warm, compared to the left side which gets real hot. Has anyone replaced the handwarmers in their Nytros? The local dealer never did it. They did say that when replacing a heating element that the grips would not be reusable? I also noticed that the part number for the 09s and 10s is different than the 08s. Can the newer version be used on the 08? The reason I ask is that the 08 one is about 70.00 and the 09/10 version is 35.00, and supposedly Yamaha improved them in 09/10. What is the difference, other than the part number, and cost?? Is the plug that goes to the wiring harness the same? Any help would be much apprectiated, as my girlfriend is riding this sled this year and she has already complained! Thanks

Lets try stay on topic here.. hes not asking about Yamaheater..
I replaced handwarmers this fall and you will not be able to reuse your grips, unless someone has a really clever method of removing them.. The grips are glued to the elements and the elements adhear to the bars. I just cut mine off with a razor blade. So to do it right, you will need new elements, special high temp glue, and grips.
Im not sure about differences in the years with the elements. I just got yam part # SMA-HOTGP-HK-00, its a full kit with everything you need. Its the same as RSI if you want to find more info on the site. I wired blue and red together and they are as warm as i need them to be!

I had the left side go last year so this year I replaced both of them with RSI Dual heaters. Wired them through a switch and now I have them on even at idle. I disabled the rocker switch so I don't get any codes and needed no resistors to make the ECU happy. Should have hot hands this season. And I also reused my grip just could not put rivets in used tie wraps instead. If they move around too much I switch for RSI grips.

Dont even bother with anything other than the YAMAHEATER. You will have warm hands. Get the plug and play kit and your done in 30 min and ur hands are toasty. No brainer. ;)!

Northernboy,

How did you disable the rocker and prevent an ECU code?

get used to it...

dont get used to the lack of heat, yamaheater will fix it! Just because yamaha had a giant fail behind the design doesnt mean there was no reason for it, at idle the engine's charging system is not producing a good charge to the battery so the engineers capped the major electrical offenders (the thumb and hand warmers) so that the sled left running will not kill the battery with the headlight and taillight and ignition system all already taking up what little power the charging system is producing at ~1550 rpm, this doesnt address the issue of poor heat when cruising along.

Hi, thanks for that answer! How much is that kit and is it compatible for all years 08,09 or 10? Is it for both sides or available seperately as I have no problem with the left hand grip. It gives off pleanty of heat (actully gets overly hot!). I am just guessing that maybe the one element is bad and that all of the juice is going to the other side. I really just want to replace the throttle side element/grip and be done with it. I still would like to know if anyone knows if the 09 or 10 part is compatible with the 08? Thanks!

Well no luck for me of course. They are about the same as my stock grips.

Last nite at 20 with lots of wind they were barely adequate. On full high I could barely feel any heat. Both of the RX 1's that were with me had they'rs on 1 and were hot.

All my connections are soldered. This is so friggin agrivating.

You should have checked the grips first, to be ~7.5 ohms or so, then if they were good go out and get yamaheater, power doesn't come out of thin air so trying to make the stock system better wont be easy with little to no power to run the grips thanks to the ECU.
