I have a 08 Nytro and thought I remembered hearing something long ago about updating the ball joints or tie rod ends or something? Are the ball joints part of the steering? I have Mountaintech arms.

Ball joints are part of the suspension, not steering. The mountaintech arms use different ones than are on the oem arms. Be glad you have the mountaintech arms, they are way better. Just check the tie rod ends for excessive play, and go forward accordingly.
