'08 RTX suspension questions after revalve. Disappointed.

a couple things that i hope will help you out with. First, never judge the rtx suspension by a showroom push test. If you go by that you would think that it doesnt move at all. An example, I ride with two revs guys all the time with a lot of seat time on both. 07 and 09 revs.If you push on their suspensions its the smoothest thing you'll ever feel. Total movement, like theres twice the usable travel than the rtx. But out in real world conditions riding there suprisingly not much difference between the sleds. Yes there is a little more suppleness in the small stuff, but not by too much. If you study other suspension designs, not just doo's, ive noticed the rtx skid is coupled much tighter than these other designs. If you want to test this out just put dollies under skis and track in garage and place track dolly on different points under track. Try just past middle towards front and you'll be surprised on much movement you will get. Now put at rear of track and you'll get hardly any movement because it couples so quickly. This suspension really only gets good movement out on the trail where the front rail encounters a bump first then coupling comes into play. I've always questioned when coupling came out that it was accually a better design in general. And now more sleds are going towards uncoupling than before for a smoother ride. After all this i think if you are still not happly with the rear end , the rtx skid is not for you , and a mono would be better for your liking. Your settings are pretty much right on from what i can tell.Good luck.
 

I will find out for sure very shortly on how much I like the revalve, going riding.... I did notice yesterday that It seemed much softer after a few mile ride, maybe from extra weight of snow in the tunnel, or the shocks just need to warm up a bit before they soften up.
 
Thanks for the input, after riding today with the springs on full soft and set at full transfer and clicker near full soft, I bottomed several times on big bumps. Set the springs to medium on the trip home, it helped, but notably a bit stiffer. Thinking I need to firm up the compression some and try the sping at soft again. I'm kinda pissed that Carver talked me out of using ReX's setup. It doesn't ride as bad now, but not smooth at slower speeds like my mxzx was. I guess bottoming out is going to happen with it set at max transfer, but that's the only way it'll ride smooth.

I have the 09 RTX (stiffer 2200Nm.)and I swapped for the 07's (softer 1900Nm.)
 
Hi, I had mine re-valved by HyGear and I am happy with the way it rides now. I find that it is a give and take in adjustment though. No one setup is going to work well on all conditions with this suspension. I have mine set fairly stiff most of the time. Personally, I feel that this suspension (once properly valved) is good for agressive trail riders. If you are a cruiser it is not going to be ideal. I find that if there are bumps ahead, hit the throttle. If you go over them at slow speeds the suspension will feel stiff. When you are on the trottle, the combination of weight transferred to the rear and speed makes the suspension work really well. For my riding style this is perfect. Then again, I am one of those riders that smiles when I see a beat up trail. The other thing that I have noticed is that my valving feels much better once I have put 20-30 miles on the sled and it has had a chance for ice to build in the tunnel. I have a feeling that the shock shops (carver, hygear, pioneer, etc.) realize that ice buildup exists on these sleds and compensate the valving for it.

Well stated --- If I could make myself 20 years younger, I would really love this set up ...
 
Im 250 with gear on,I bottom out a lot. springs stiff,weight trans a little past the second line on weight transfer,just changed the oil in the both shocks
and i had the dampening 2 clicks back from full front shock loose,limiter strap
1 down from top.

I took a new 800 etech,there rough trail for a ride,I feel our front shocks
are much better,but there skids were better than ours.
I just love our motor,the etec was ok but can't pull like ours.
I love to find a set up with ours that can handle the big bumps at 60
with my weight.
I m thinking of replacing the whole skid to the x2 and put on a 128 in track.
think that would be a good set up for what im looking for ?
 
Guess I should mention, it rode good at 50+, but never had to ride slow yesterday, like 30 mph like I have to when the girlfriend rides and I have to set a slow pace in front of her. I would say it still rides a bit stiff at that speed, not as bad though.
 
carver revalve

Had Carver put rexs setup in mine and it still rides like sh%&,Rexs technical ramblings sounded great but I feel it was another wast of money trying to put a bandaid on a poorley designed skid,also had shocks done by Pioneer before carver with the same result.I wish I had the money people have spent trying to make this skid work.After riding a friends F series cat I wanted to burn mine,been riding yamahas since 1977 and have put up with some bad suspensions this one takes the cake. Mines for sale
 
Well, I guess that makes me feel better about Carvers revalve if Rex's recommended revalve didn't work that well either. I feel Carvers setup (with a bit more fine tuning) does well enough to keep it. It's always a trade for how you want a suspension to perform. It's great for some hot dogging and pulling the skis over drifts vs. the M-10 I'll describe below. I just spent about 20 miles on my viper s with the newly installed M-10 and I'm just shocked at how the small trail junk, dips/humps just dissappear, makes me think a Team Fast or AD Biovin suspension may have to replace the proaction CK someday. M-10 Still bottoms easier than the proaction CK, I think, since it's a falling rate suspension. I almost felt it made the ride a bit boring with lack of ski lift and smoothing everything out so much. The M-10 would be my pick if I knew the trail was beat to crap and had a long day of riding ahead. The Viper's cornering ability took a hit as it seems much tippier now with a higher center of gravity with the M-10. I'd say it's a reasonable trade as we ride more bumpy straights than twisty trails. I also noticed I was traveling a much higher speeds than I thought, because it was so smooth. I'd have felt every ripple and bump in the snow with the apex's skid. The RTX is like riding a sportbike, the M-10 is like riding a Goldwing. All in all, I'm now happy enough to keep the RTX suspension due to the advise of all the TY members here. Thanks again everyone. :rocks:
