My vote: Update the 120 class engine...which means a 750 or 800 EFI makes the most sense.
Let's see... we now have 1,000cc 4 cyl at 150 hp, 500cc 2 cyl at 80 hp. That leaves a beautiful hole for a 750cc 3 cyl that will make 115 hp. Drop it in another newly designed lighter chassis...and/or offer the motor as an option in all their existing chassis. Would fill a LOT of holes even if they don't have a new chassis for next year: Such an engine could offer higher HP option for the Phazer, a killer fuel-mileage lighter weight long-range Apex/Attak based luxury cruiser that could easily run with the 600/700 2 stroke class, a much lighter EFI-based front end for the Nytro that makes about the same hp as its current 1,000 cc 3 holer, a lighter and more refined Vector motor with better hp...Of couse I agree the Vector chassis is due for an update next year, if they even bother to keep it/replace it at all...
Of course reality dictates that a new motor won't simply bolt into all these sleds, but a guy can dream, can't he? That's all these rumor threads are anyway....summer daydreams...fun, though!

apex/dbII chassis - relatively unchanged, maybe some new feature
vector/nytro/dbI chassis - gone, 120 motor made efi and put into dbII, a few more horses too, closer to 130hp, new names
phazer/fx chassis - relatively unchanged
100-110hp gap - filled with a bigger twin, around 900cc. efi. expect to see the 450f motor doubled. in the fx chassis. new name, hopefully not the exciter name.
judging by what they have done the last few years and the 3 yr rotation thing. makes sense

My prediction - No big changes for 08 except for the Vector/Nytro being made to DBII.

I know Rightarm and know that he does have some close ties back to Yamaha. "Righty"....I hope you're right because that would be too sweet!
Take care....hope all is well.

My guess would be about the same as Timebomb's.
I hope that Yamaha drops the HO motor from the watercraft line into the Apex/Attaks to get afew more hp's out of them. The HO motors are at 165 hp. I do not see Yamaha doing much to the Apex/Attak line for a least 1 more year. The big changes will be the RS line for 08.

I'm hoping they put the Vectors in the DII chassis and give the Genesis 120 Fuel Injection, Although I'm not worrying because I won't be buying a new sled anytime soon.

I like the 170hp for the Apex idea. That will put us right with "Mr Nasty". Stock for stock. With all the turbos, though I suppose the it doesn't matter what Hp ratings they do to the Apex. lol

This is the most likely scenario.
You may see the 120 engine become a 120FI as well.
The FX chassis will see at least two if not three full seasons before another engine is dropped into it. Yamaha does not move that fast and they have too many new features to test and analyze over time (new chaincase, pushbutton reverse, open exhaust, etc.) before they can trust the FX chassis to handle a larger engine.

New but been here a while
Remember they have been working on this sled/chassis since 01' , so yes it is new, but has been worked on a while. I'm not neccesarily saying your wrong just keep that in mind. I think Yamaha will have to step it up in the next 3 years to compete with Cat's/Suzuki 4 strokes, and Polaris is already in the mode with a factory turbo, you can bet they'll have a screamer built with in the next 3 years with there turbo and another engine. Suzuki already has endless amounts of power in there bike engines that will be adapted to the sled side I'm sure in the next few years. Know matter what happens with the other companies the next 5 years will be history changing for sure and we will all benefit from it!
