08 subframe

Am I in denial? I bought the machine used last season before I knew about the issues and what to look for..
I can not see any obvious damage to subframe but one shock is not centered and the steering is really heavy compared to my friends Nytro.
Any chance the upper a arm would be bent only?
What could bind up the steering to a tight feel even when on ice last year where his was effortless and mine took effort to move bars..

I would give your dealer the vin number to see if it is one of the recall models in 08. My 2008 had the subframe covered because a large batch of them went out wrong from the factory. Just an FYI, and if not Ulmer sells a beef up kit for subframes

New to the forum. I took my subframe out today, its an '08. Was just gonna order another and beef it up. Who or what is Ulmer. I would like to add some strength to the new frame so this doesn't happen again.

Sorry both pictures are the same side.. I will check with dealer but if not covered is there a way to salvage / repair the subframe?
Any ideas if this would be the cause of the stiff steering or should i be looking for something else for that issue?

Remove the body plastic and check the frame over. If the frame still looks square then remove the lower a-arms and inspect the frame holes. They may have egged out but can be repaired. I welded the nuts to the frame to prevent the holes from egging. If you can repair the frame or buy a new one install update gussets and it'll be stronger than new frames. As far as steering effort it could have been difference in carbides id imagine

I put grizztracks gusset kit in my 08. It is well worth it. If your frame isn't bent now it will be or your not runnin hard enough.

The twisting of the subframe can very well cause your steering to bind, but it also could be all the bushings in the steering and front suspension are bone dry/worn out.

Jack up the front of the sled so that the skis hang freely and check the steering play. Lube everything/anything you can. Check front ball joints for play and definitely check all bolts, especially the ones on the spindles.

Get intimate with your sled. And prepare to read up on all the valuable info on this site. There are many other Nytro riders out there who have experienced the same issues...just search and you'll see.

So I just got back from the shop. The new subframe is gonna cost me $470. Would it be a good idea to add the grizz frame kit to it anyway?

The general consensus is to add the gussets even to new sub-frames but it's up to you.
