Yesterday went for the first ride with my 09. Background it sat for over a year before I got it. We got to tug yesterday and I filled the tank with 91 non ethanol. It would idle at first but as soon as we got going it would run well but wouldn't idle every stop it would shut down and have to be restarted using throttle. Problem two after the first big throttle time the yellow light came on and it boiled over in the overflow. We filled it and light would come on and go off. It would run well just not idle. It never flashed any codes ever. When running it harder the light seemed to go off sometimes but would come back on. Conditions were not great there but I talked to another nytro guy and he was not having the same problem. Back with the fuel problem it seemed like I was using a lot of gas, only got 88 miles on the tank and took 7 gallons to fill back up. I know there is a lot of information on here and have been reading a lot. I checked the fan fuse is good. This morning when I got up checked the coolant level and was done maybe 10 oz (just guessing there).

ps Grizz I think you are located near me I would love to speak with you. Thanks

I've rode the Marathon area with several Yamaha guys who get together every year and ride that area. We stay at the small hotel/restaurant/bar just of the exit in Marathon.

If it's pushing coolant out and the overflow bottle keeps over filling there is a good chance the engine had been overheated at one point and blown the head gasket. I've done a few of these and usually find that the head is warped also. If that's the problem a machine shop can correct the head and a new gasket will fix the problem. I'm not totally convinced that all your problems are head gasket related but from what you describe it's definitely a possibly. Send me a PM.

Well stupid me, when we were changing the exhaust I never changed the plugs so I feel like this could be part of the problem of idling. Will be changing those when we start working on this. We are going to put pressure in the system on Monday and see if it holds, but my gut tells me some work has to be done. Ive done a lot to the sled already in upgrades so why stop now.

So how did this work out for you? A few years a go I heated up my 08, threw a stud through the exchanger. Had new one installed, then found that after riding@ 100 miles, enough coolant pushed out the overflow to heat up. Long story short, head gasket failed, warped head, Brought it out to Scio to Grizz, and it's been great ever since.....hope this works the same for you.

Well I think that it needs to have head gasket and head looked at but for now I am going to ride this thing some and have work done this summer. I am tired of dumping money into it and not getting anywhere. I did ride it at Barnes corners this past week and had very little issues other than my low beer light. Thanks tho
