2009 Yamaha FX Nytro XTX
Hi All, so my Nytro has been giving me starter issues for a while now. It all began with a broken magnet. Anyway. I just put a new starter in her last year. Started right up . Took it down the hill got on to the lake and engine staled and now it will not start. Turns over very slow. With heavy draw on the battery. I am thinking it is in the starter gears and 1 way clutch. Could anyone please help me. I miss my Nytro . Would really like to ride this season !! Thanks in advanec

I have seen the starters fail again.. did you buy an after market and its possible the relay stuck and it spun engaged and took it out again.

I had the original rebuild extra tough from a very good tech. Had the starter out and bench tested it. All good. The engine stalled dead. Which has never happened ever. Is it possible the start clutch is buggered

also if you turn the primary clutch by hand forward. Nice and smooth . If you go backwards it scraps. I can’t image this is normal

sounds like the battery and or starter to me. this style of starter is always engaged with the ring gear having a hilliard bearing. your rolling the engine forward smoothly and feeling it turn the starter backwards is normal operation. If the starter relay stuck engaged and you didn't hear the starter turning and rode anyway, it would kill the battery and stall the engine. when the starter is out, you can stick your finger in the hole to check ring gear. smooth one way and grabbing the motor the other

I think you are on the right track with the starter clutch.

True, sometimes the aftermarket starters and relays are of poor quality(but great prices).

Hmmm, new starter original Yamaha rebuilt by very very good tech. New Yamaha start relay. And I have an extra . It’s the scrap sound that puzzles me. It’s for sure not the starter rolling. Thanks for the input
