121" to 136" Phazer questions.

How reliable is a self cut track anyhow?

That deep lug 136 is going to turn that Phazer into a VERY fun sled in the powder. :) Get some 8in skis to keep the front up and you will swear its a different sled.. Trust me

What brand of skiis? I still have to use it on the groomed trails!

I personally prefer SlyDog 8inch wide . Its hard to find a ski that is really good in the deep snow and on the trail, i think you need to find some middle ground on what works for where you ride. I used the cheapest (smallest 6inch) carbide I could buy for the Slydogs skies because in the deep snow carbides really dont matter the ski does.. If you ride some trails you could just get a good set of good carbides for the slydog skies, they have lots of options and that would help you on the trail. Keep in mind the steering is sloppy on the phazers, nature of the beast. You can throw alot of money at steering upgrades and new bushing but they wont help much so learn to live with it. Its a phazer not a apex or venture. Just keep the front skies adjusted correctly and good carbides and your pretty good to fair on the trails and really really good off the trail.

I put the Yamaha MTX 7" skis on the wife's stretched Phazer. She said night and day difference and loves the set-up. I'm running the 7" Powder Hounds on my Nytro and luv em.
Happy wife.
Happy life.

Nice aha! I ride lots of trail, what would you both recommend for powder and hard packed trail riding?

This has been a topic here many times and allot of people agree Slydogs or the MTX ski. Either one is going to prove better than the stock trail ski. The Slydogs do have a steeper angle at the leading edge of the carbide so more drag on the smaller Phazer motor. The MTX skis have the same 7" width for floatation but have the deeper keel for trail. IMHO (2 cents) for the Phazer is the MTX ski.

Ive got a couple questions for you guys about the 136 freeride
#1 Do you have to do a tunnel extension

#2 Do you need to regear it

#3 How much top end is lost?

thanks

From what I researched, 136" requires no re gearing, or clutching, as for a tunnel extension, it is optional on a 136 but it's recommend you extend it so when you reverse you don't eat the snow flap. Thanks D.H

I felt the extension is mandatory due to when hitting a good bump you're not going to chew up your new track. First time I tried the wife's before I put the extension on I said no more riding until she gets stretched. (the Phazer that is) Too much possibility of track damage.

What part of the skidframe would be hitting the new track on the stock tunnel? And what's the easiest way to extend the tunnel at home in the shop?

The track will touch the curled lip the snow flap is attached to. (acts like a knife and will cut the lugs). To do it it properly is to extend the bumper and tunnel.

Makes sense! Do you know of any tunnel extension guides?

No guides. Hartman talked about making kits but didn't feel there would be enough orders to justify the cost. Most of here extend the bumper and and have a piece of Aluminium cut and bent to extend the tunnel.
