I have found a used rear skid to replaced my worn-out right rail for next season. I lost a slide on a 2 days trip and did some good damage. I will also chage my track for a new one. The stock one is getting to the end of its life. Because the suspension will be out, this could be a good time to elongate the rail to 128. I am Looking at track USA extension.
I have been searching on this site and I can't find anything bad about the extension. I would like to know If some of you run extension?
Is there any chance of failure? Or are they safe?
Will 128 really improve the bump absorption and traction?
Or it will not make much of a difference?
Or should I go safe and stay 121 and install a Freeride track?
Looking for some feedback.

I posted a similar question on here last year but didn't get too many responses. I never did do an extension or swap the track because I'm probably going to sell the sled, provided I can get a decent price for it.
You only have a couple options as far as stretching it to 128. 1st is cut a 15 wide track down to 14 wide. In this case you can choose any track you want. The other is to find an old firecat 13.5 wide track. I have never personally saw a phazer with a firecat track, but some on here have said it works.
Swapping to a freeride is probably the easiest route as it is plug n play. And the freeride has received great responses from all that have made the swap.

If I was going 128, I think that I would go for an Ice attack XT. For my region, I think that it would be a great track.
I really need some traction device on my track over here. I am not sure what can be donne on the Freeride.
Thanks Macheater for your reply, I did not expect a lot of feedback last night when I made the post. This does not seems to be a popular tread or mods.

I did an extension on an Apex 121 to 128 about 8 years ago and it is still in there without any issues. It does change the ride by a very small amount on the Apex for the better. It might even be more of a change on the Phazer as it is a lot lighter on the front end.

You could do what the MTX guys do when installing a 151" track since 144->151 is the same as 121->128. There are posts about relocating the skid back 3 to 3.5" instead of using extensions, the MTX guys do it to improve the bad approach angle. On a short track it may improve handing by stretching the wheelbase a bit and making it harder to lift the nose.

I didn't know this was possible with the Phazer. I have seen it done on Nytro by Star Suspension on there website page. If that can be done on the Phazer, that is what I will do.
Do you a link of some one that has done it?
Thanks a lot.

I am putting in a 128 track I found on Kiijii for 100 bucks. It is from an 09 crossfire . it's a rip saw or hacksaw some kind of saw anyway. There are 124 picks in it now. it came studded with 204. I got my rail extensions from a company in B.C. called Canada sled parts. that's next weeks project. still working on this weeks projects. Starter, bearing kit for steering, reverse transmission, Eliminating exhaust doughnuts, with a product from another Canadian company , still need to get the seat redone a bit higher.

Post some pics when you get it done.

I like Handy did the 121 to 128 on an Apex, went with ice ripper.
My take was the 128 made minimal difference in ride handling or floatation.
The rail extensions were easy and durable, the track was slightly better than no studs but not at all comparable to studs.
My 2 cents

working on the Phazer just waiting for track drivers to come in. I have repaired the skid and installed the rail extenders. I rebuilt the rear shock and changed the shim stack a bit. Also have installed torsion spring spacers and changed all bearings I could. I re greased a few of the idlers and replaced the two outside rear idlers. also have another marginal snow wheel kit I will be installing. I have also change the exhaust doughnuts to the kit from fx garage, cleaned out the oil passage for reverse drive, painted the seat frame, replacing the drivers, repaired wiring to rev sensors, rerouted brake light wiring, replaced shock link, repaired holes for link, replaced fts shock bottom bushing. Also getting the seat redone to be higher and a bit wider. (about 1/3 the cost of buying a seat on line)
