Also a warning sign that I recognized in hind site was, the hand warmers were real weak the day before this happened. I was like WTF is going on with my hand warmers and thought they were going bad and was gonna need yamaheaters. After the stator was replaced they were real hot again and put 2 and 2 together. Are you saying the Stator was bad because of putting a 310cca battery in it? Just trying to learn.

OK, got it. Sometimes I'm a little slowNo, the motor would barely turn over, and it had a brand new battery in it. It had to be the stator as the stator recharges the battery.

On my 2011 Apex, it was flawless until this year. 2 were Yamaha issues, one was man made. First, my exhaust cracked just behind the exup valve. 225 dollars to have it welded, no big deal. My sled would not start recently in Quebec, I knew it was the stator as I just put a 310 cca battery in it. Rode it to the dealer, and sure enough the stator was bad. 400 dollars and I was on my way. The last is disturbing. While in Quebec. I lost my reverse as it was just grinding. I thought it just needed adjustment, and I took the side panel off and found a quarter size hole in the chain case cover. The bolt going into the drive shaft had backed out and wore a hole in the cover. I had the case apart over the summer to do a track change, so I'm chalking that up to my own fault. Amazing part was it did not leak any oil. I took the cover off and placed the bolt back in, and covered the hole with duct tape, and continued on my trip for another 600 miles with no problems. I'm waiting on parts to fix it right. Ironic part is the guy I go with is a certified Yamaha mechanic and he said he has seen 3 incidences of the same thing this year already. In his 30+ years as a mechanic he has never seen it until this year. He also told me that Yamaha must have silently known there was a problem because in 2011 Yamaha added a retaining clip to keep this bolt in. Well it didn't work as my bolt and clip were sitting down in the plastic.
IMO...those are all maintenance/wearable parts issues, try doing that with any other machine and you will encounter items that will have to be addressed also.....that's pretty impressive reliability for 20,000 miles of riding.
Same crappy bushings in 2011 as yours. I replaced them 10k miles ago with oilites and now its solid. Did the exhaust donuts with copper at the same time and those are good as I just checked them when I had the exhaust out to get welded. Really just replacement wear items so far. Rode it this weekend, and love the sled. I did get a hygear dual rate spring and my shocks revalved before this year. It now has 19,573 miles on it. Will hit near 21k by the end of the year if the snow holds, but this year sucks for snow.OK, got it. Sometimes I'm a little slowMy Attak is an '06 and with around 15,000 miles I've had to replace all sorts of chassis related items, which is understandable, and I'm putting a stator/CPS in it this week. I assume with almost 20,000 miles the 2011 has similar issues? How about those A-arm bushings, have you replaced those? Just wondering how much better the newer models are.
