Ok my milage was up to 600 miles on my sled and I thought that it was time to change my oil for the first time. Took it to the dealer and they changed it they told me that they had to remove the batterry and drain the oil from two different locations and that My bill will be about 80.00 bucks. I change my oil on my diesel truck with 14 qts. of oil for less than that. How hard is it to change oil in a vector and what should I expect to pay for a oil change with filter of course?

I did mine for under 30 bucks. You do not remove the battery on the Vector you just remove the side panel and the belly pan and the two drain plugs are right in front of you.The manual walks you right through it step by step. It was very easy. The 03 + 04 RX1's had to remove the battery if the dealer doesn't know the difference you may as well do it yourself.Just make sure that the O ring comes off with the old filter. :

Oil change info

If you look up prior thread dated Jan. 28,2004 you can find some more chat about the oil change. I have to do the change on my rage soon as the season is about over for me. Good luck Combat!

changed my oil bout a month ago...very easy. pull of right panel, start draining oil tank, then jump underneath ur sled and take off bellypan cover-should be some allen wrench screws-take those off and then ur filter and plug should be right there-

Thanks for the info- I will definatly change my own oil from now on. I take it that there is no supplier other than dealer for yamaha oil and oil filter? Heading up north this weekend and then back in the middle of march for a week long ride and than I will put the sled away until next year. Once again thanks for the info :rocks:

No, its possible to get Yamaha oil from someone other than a Yamaha dealer. There is an aftermarket parts dealer in my areas that sells all the different sled manufacturors oil for less than you can get it at the actual dealer.

My dealer did not charge me for my first service. He changed my oil, tightened the track, greased it and ajusted my supension!

Find a good dealer! I have!

Yes, a good dealer will do this for you. I guess mine isn't that good. :(

Who's yours....Woody's in Topsham?

DO IT YOURSELF!

It is easyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!

All you need to do is take off the access panel on the bottom of the sled, and the side cover off on the oil tank side......thats it! Drain oil, put new fliter on.......20 min job. Not worth paying 80 bucks.

Gary's Yamaha in Caribou! John gives good prices and great service. I would never think about going anywhere else.

Ah ha. Never been there myself, but I've heard lots of good things about Gary's.

You know it! Its still snowing like a bastid here in central Maine......I haven't been out yet (work was cancelled today) but I'm guessing theres a good 6 inches on the ground. Looking for a foot or so by the time its all said and done.

Have a good time in the County, I'll be riding local myself this weekend.
