I tried 2 teeth at first. The speed was about right on, but the distance was showing short.
I cut 6 off and switched the speedo to km/h. Now it's mph. checking with a gps, speed 114 on speedo and 112.4 on gps. Distance in an 80 mile trip the speedo shows a half mile more.
Also there are benifits in that the sled thinks it's not adding up as many miles. Better resale.

Nope, just cut about every 3rd or so. It does'nt really matter, all the pick up is doing is counting spaces or the teeth them selfs.
I just wish I did it right from the start, not to rack up so many miles.

You could use a dremel, it might take forever. I used a air powered cut off wheel, 5 mins.

They'll still think of ways to trick you - replace the gear before selling. The only way to buy a used vehicle is to forget about mileage and go strictly by CONDITION.WarriorBeads said:now i'll be checking speedo gear teeth before I buy a used sled!![]()

Doing this cut gets your mph reading closer to accurate but mess's up you odometer's miles traveled?

As you have likely read on this site likely a few times where you cut 2 teeth and makes the speed right but the odo read a lower distance. I cut the 6 and the speed was about 1 mile and hour high at speeds over 100 mph, and the distance was so close with a gps, I could have spun the difference. It does look a little funny for a bite seeing km/h, but it is right on the money. Even you did'nt like the mod, the new little gear is only 10-12 dollars.

My theory on this is the speedometer is more accurate in kph for some reason.
Out on a fairly hard packed lake I did a little experiment the other day on a relatively short, smooth stretch. In kph, the sled would top out at about 184kph, but in mph, the sled would top out at about 123mph on the same stretch. This is only using the speedometer.
123mph works out to about 197kph so it doesn't add up - but it does explain why 1xr found using the metric setup is more accurate between speed and distance.
Anyone else tried this?

Yes, ihave done this on my rx-1.....on a very smooth and hard suface i could frequent 126-127 mph, but switch back over to klm's i couldn't break the 200 mark 197-198 which equals 122 mph .

I'm betting in some states, its a big NO-NO to tamper with any part of the speedo-odo!

here's an interesting thought...
I think I just recently heard of honda and nissan that faced a mega lawsuit over their odometer's reading wrong costing lease and purchase customers extra money in depreciation and mileage costs...
what is the impact on us yammie owners elling used in the market against other brands at lower mileages?
