Also it dose run and idle fine for sitting as long as it has.it fired right up with a boost. Even befor I put fresh gas in I had a couple sniffs in the tank and smells like good gas.
So I went to the farm today and got the sled. Checking the exup valve it was out a bit, maybe 1/4 drill bit towards the rear. Is that enough to make a difference? Got it as close to centered as possible. But another thing I noticed when I piped the belt off is I can open the secondary with one hand and clutches cold. I know on my 07 even warm I would need 2 hands. Is it possible that the clutching is different and more aggressive on the rtx, as I remember this 11 se was somewhat aimed at a trail sled and that some clutching was changed compared to the rtx that was their ditch banging capable sled at the time. Am I comparing oranges to.....mandarin oranges so to speak? Look the same but lil different on the inside?
Should not be that easy to open up the secondary. The RTX ditch banger (as you call it) had deeper gearing and a slightly different shock package and skid than the other models. The clutches were the same.
Your SE and the RTX have the same helix and spring assuming that the RTX is stock. The stock twist in the RTX (60) is slightly less than the SE (70). So in theory it should take a little more force to open up the SE secondary.
Maybe this is where your problem is. Take the secondary apart and inspect it.
If you are still having trouble with it bring it on down to my place. I'm only 20 mins south of the 'Peg, heated garage and 1/8 of a mile from the groomed trail.
I'm no sled wizard but I seem to get most issues ironed out on way or another.

What's your clutch wound ( not sure that's correct spelling) to? Did you look at the spring and make sure it's not broke in someway? That thing should fight you with both hands not fall apart with one.

Opening your clutches with just one hand does not sound right at all. I bet there is a broken spring or something wrong in there.

Ya it was really weak. Took it apart and the spring itself feels soft. Like I can completely compress it in one hand is that normal or am I use to clutching quads? Never played with sled clutched much other then replacing a spring or rollers and some general servicing. As for where the spring was clocked it was in 6 and... I would assume 1. Couldn't see any numbers inside. So I stuck with 1 and moved the outter to 9. That took 2 hands to clock it and open it after. I've also read on here about guys using the Yamaha silver secondary spring ( I'm assuming black with silver mark?) what the diff between the two? I also Sucked the gas out and threw some fresh 91 in with a little sea foam. Just gotta get out and test it

Also as to how it was wound... When I took it apart the bolt holes on the helix were only about....1-1.5" at the most from being inline. And the inner half? ( what I'd call it) of the secondary closest to the engine seems really sloppy on the shaft. Bushing looks normal. But I can't see Yamaha having it being that sloppy. I always thought they were pretty good with their engineering?

When is the last time you actually rode the sled?? Hard to help you if you are just guessing what may be wrong according to other vehicles.![]()
2011 Apex's were fast sleds.......Too much confusing info here

4 years in the barn unused, im sure it's nothing serious other than a quick look at several things

I never touched or tinkered with the sled other then the first oil change. It was sucked out right from new and as of now only has 1700 kms on it. I do know it has potential that it is not living up to. After taking the secondary apart I'm hoping that it is nothing more then a poorly set up clutch2011 Apex's were fast sleds.......Too much confusing info here

Are fast sleds! Just sayin!

1 and 6 is the factory spec and I would stick with that. Most of the threads I have read was on the pre 2011 short track sleds. People would put in the white spring (black with a white mark) like the Attack or LTX would use. It seemed to pull a little better than the pink spring.Ya it was really weak. Took it apart and the spring itself feels soft. Like I can completely compress it in one hand is that normal or am I use to clutching quads? You will be able to compress the secondary spring by hand when it is out. If you have forearms like Popeye you can completely collapse it. The secondary on the sled should be a lot like your ATV's.
You will be able to move the secondary back and forth on the shaft. It is meant to "float". Just for fun take the secondary from your RTX and put it on your SE. See if that makes a difference.
I've driven beside a 2011 xtx that had the largest available windshield on it hauling a Sasquatch doin' 100+mph. I also watch the taillight of a 2012se as it walks away from me on the long pulls across a lake.
You have a sled that is fast out of the box with no mods or adjustments needed. It will put a stock RTX to shame on a lake pull. Out of the hole the RTX should jump ahead but will hit the wall fairly quick with it's gearing and the SE will just keep pulling.

Now when you say fully collapse it. You mean with the spring out and in my hand? Because I did that and ya I squeezed it together totally with one hand. Where as the clutching on say my maverick I did some clutching to it as the factory stuff got soft from heat. But when I took that secondary out and squeeze it. I need two hands and can't get compress it any more then down to about 3" long, not compressed its 5.25" long. Could it be just a bad spring? I ment to call the dealer for a new one but to get any helpful info on parts from them is like getting snow in July. Also in the picture below if I've done it right. It looks to me like the spring is way to close together like there's not enough room for the clutch to open.
Is it still at 9 and 1?? Whats with all the grinding marks on the clutch? I have a spring here if you would like to try it.
The spring I have loose here takes both my hands to fully compress it.
My secondary looks like this with an aftermarket helix but the spring and spacing of the winds will be the same as stock.

Not sure what the marks are. I seen them too and thought just a poor casting and clean up at the factory. And the spacing between the spring on your pic looks big compared to mine. I can fit a #2 Robertson tip between mine.
