Thinking of getting this sled. Friend of mine owns it. Sled has not been abused. 4500 miles of the 6000 are Canadian miles. He has had absolutly no issues with it. Its dealer serviced every fall.

He is going to take it to dealer and see how much they will give him for trade on a new sled. He will then sell it to me for that price.

What do you guys think?? :4STroke:

probobly not much..

By now if it already hasnt had the Y-pipes and donuts replaced, it will.. right there is 700 in parts..

depends on whats been kept up on the sled,,,

Check all the boggy wheels bearings extensivly, check the chain case oil, drive shaft bearings, make sure the radiator does not have broken mounts, check the tunnel protectors to make sure they are not loose

Have any of the suspensoin bushings been replaced? ive redone my front and rear bushings all by 4300 miles.. as they were SHOT..

Hows the track? are the track clips worn?

Nothing done with exhaust or suspension bushings.

n fact, now that I think about it, with 6,000 miles, it has the original hyfax, and they still don't need to be changed.

Dealer would do the pre winter checklist on the sled. That's it. Guy who owns it is a "if it ain't broke, don't fix it person" and it has worked for him. He is a Yamaha guy and all his sleds are high milers that he hasn't had issues with. He has a 2000 SXR with over 10,000 miles on it that has a new track and new belt. That's it.

This is kinda the reason I want it. This sled is no lemon! Being as OCD as I am, I would start replacing the wearable parts though!

i find it hard to belive he has the original slides on the sled, seeing as ive changed my slides 5 or 6 times on my sled, but i never let me completely wear out..

Id start with all the bearings in the rear skid, and all the bushings in the front and rear suspensions, i GUARENTEE they are worn out.. , nest would be the exhuast donuts..

i wouldnt give more than $4500-5000 for that sled, my sled booked for $6500 last year, with 4324 miles.. but ive got a lot of money dumped in my sled..

You can buy a brand new 07 apex gt (left over) for $7950

Ive seen new 08 FX nytros that were $10K going for $7500

se even thou a resale book says you sled books for $6500 you might only end up getting $5K if your lucky..

Hell i sold my 02 viper in 04 for $3950 and it booked for $5500,, the market was flooed with them and no one wanted one..

that's amazing, i'm not wasting my money on another new yamaha until they get the handwarmers fixed, i'll keep my 06' Attak, i got her dialed in and all the fixes are done

Thanks for all the info guys!! These are the exact issues I'm dealing with. If I buy the sled and put $500-700 into it, it may be smarter to buy a 07 leftover...

I thought the purpose of buying a 4 stroke was because they hold thier value, apparently not, same as 2 if not worse, people cant even get 5000 for these things on ebay with no miles

the market is flooded with them :o|

Buying a sled because of "resale" value sounds like a made up gimmick to me. Who in the world would do that? First of all, it's just a snowmobile. What's under the hood doesn't make it any more special than any other one, just as long as it turns the clutches....we're taking stock). Second, it's a depreciating vehicle, a recreational vehicle at that, and it's really not that special. Third, as someone above mentioned, the market's flooded with them and the brand new one's are going cheap.

Personally, I buy a snowmobile to ride; not think about selling right away. Everyone of my friends that buy new also don't wonder what it's going to fetch until they decide they're going to sell it.

Yea, I remember lots of post about the potential great resale value of these, I also seem to remember it was probably drummed up by the members on here. It's just a snomobile, people!

To the original poster, most of the items that are original with 6000 miles are fairly inexpensive and easy to change, i.e., bearings, bushings, sliders, some wheels. The exhaust donuts are a bit more challenging, but not impossible for the average wrench. Use some of these things mentioned above as bargining; or just go with the usual low bid the dealer will probably give for trade in. An amount? How about $4800?

Hey Welt - I've got over 4,000 on my original slides and I'm not even thinking of changing them yet! I've never understood why we all seem to have such great differences in slider wear. I have my original ripsaw with 144 down the middle. I run it loose, and still use yamaha idler wheels too.

Every yamaha ive owned has been a slide eater.. I ride with all cat and polaris sleds, in the same conditions, and my sled would eat the slides, up untill i installed slp wear pads, and larger front wheels.. once you get them half worn they pretty much stop wearing..
