2006 photos from Minneapolis....

The more I look at these sleds the more I like them. I'm taking my old F7 up to the dealer in Aberdeen on Friday so he can look at it and tell me how much he'll give me for it on a trade-in. Or if he'll even take it. As soon as I get rid of that sled, I will have an Apex on snow check. Now I just need to decide if I want the ER or the RTX!

I actually think the Apex GT will be the best "trail" sled. On the fly adjustibility for the monoshock shock and piggy back front shocks which result in unlimited settings and adjustability! The RTX is more your bada** trail/rough trail sled, ultra light and great technology with the fox floats. The Apex ER is more your "base" model, but will be a excellent sled as well!

so for a Grandpa like me the Attak would be the way to go....Damn I like the colors on that GT ;)!

Tom, don't lie to us, you're probably getting one of each :ORC

The Attak should be a great sled as well. I'm interested to see how that 136" monoshock reacts. ;)!

ya me too....I am not sure what sled I am getting...I will decide after next week !!!!!

i think all the new sleds are the best looking sleds ever made!!!
wicked picks
y didn't the rean rack on the apex mountain make it to the site?

The only difference between the RTX and the ER that I can see is that the ER doesn't have the Fox Float shocks, doesn't have the lower windshield, and comes with reverse standard (as opposed to an option). I really like the Yamaha blue on the ER and am not a fan of the black color on the RTX which is the only reason that I'm debating getting the ER over the RTX. I think get the ER in blue like I want, and then if I want to get a set of Fox Float shocks and a lower windshield, and there you go a blue RTX. What do you guys think of that plan?

Tom let me know as wife said ok so Red Rocket will be traded on Apex GT. Checking the specs if you add Reverse to the RTX there is only a 3 pound savings in weight over the GT. No brainer for electronic rear and clicker fronts. F5 should be sold this weekend to cover difference on trade and still have one left as spare. Really interested in your impression.

I went and saw the 06's last night.
Love them.

Much better seat than my 05, much better bars than my 05. Much better stock suspension choices than my 05. Riding position for me doesn't change much as I ride up on the tank anyway (I'm 6'4"). The bars being 6" forward will be alot easier on my arms (not that I have much problems with the 05 except the bars are too narrow and don't have hooks stock).
You can sit back and cruise on the 06's (not locked into rider forward like a REV) or you can get right up on the thing like your riding a R1 bike. Perfect.
To me, it just feels right when your sitting on them.
I think alot of people are getting hung up on the term 'rider forward', it really isn't like a REV at all.

The gauge pod.. man.. sweet when it's powered up.
Even the simple little thing like the clock is a huge addition. I can't count the number of times we'll be deep in the woods late at night and somebody asks what time it is. Off with the gloves, pull back the jacket, what a hassle.

EFI.. FINALLY!!! I traced out nearly every wire on the 06 wiring harness to see what did what and how I can get into it and suck it's brains out.
It's damn irritating to have a carb'ed sled setup for some stupid cold temp and then go ride in 40 deg weather and the thing runs like a pig unless you change the jets.

Apex Mountain.. good god that thing can scare small children!! What a killer looking machine. Makes me wish I lived near the mountains now.

Overall it really seems like Yamaha listened to what alot of people had to say.. and they implemented it.
The RA boot is different on the RTX than it is on my RX-1. Every sled I looked at had 12V source, softer seat, more gauges, more storage, more everything.

I do have a few 'issues' with them though.
1st is color/sticker choices and how Yamaha has locked them down.
To me the Apex GT with the black tunnel and everything is bad-#*$&@, but I want the Attak with it's longer track. Attack only comes in blue or red so I can't get the combo I want. One of my buddies who went with me wants a RTX but in Yamaha blue.. not possible. I'm not much into flames.
Sure you can get one and then buy the suspension parts you want.. but that's a waste of money.

Since these sleds are pretty much the same except for paint, stickers and bolt-ons (shocks and stuff) it would be outstanding if you could "Build your dream sled". I know this isn't easy thign to do when you are the manufactuer, but Ford, GM, Toyota, Dell, HP do it and the list goes on.

2nd was the flap over the storage area. I'm pretty sure what I saw was prototype or pre-production peices. If you looked closely, they dzus fittings to hold the cover on were missing off most all of the sleds. That's gonna happen in the trail if the system stays the way it is.
I love the dzus fittings to hold the side panels on and also I am sure these were prototype or pre-production as they were only 1/4 turn units. Gonna fall off. The hood shouldn't be held on by these at all. We took the hood off nearly every sled there and realizing that these sleds have been finger f'ed by alot of people, we still thought it's goign to be possible to loose the hood going down the trail.

The stock windshields are probably a bit too low...at least sitting there they LOOK like it. Now how they function at 100 MPH might be a different story. It could be that the angle and everythign will still direct the air over the rider. Have to wait and see.

Another thing that I noticed was the age of the crowd. Mostly older. Now on paper I am 40 years old, but in real life more like 25. I was listening to alot of people comment on the new sleds and I heard alot of "I'm keeping my RX-1" for various reasons. Sounded like the majority of them were 'cruiser types' that wanted a powerful machine but don't like the percieved 'racer' type stuff of the new sleds. I see ALOT of riders going down trails at 35 MPH where I am at 90+ at the same spot. The ergonomics on the 06's are more suited to my riding style. What is missing from the 06 lineup is (IMO) is a high powered performance trail cruiser with ergo's of the RX-1. Too bad they didn't slap the Vector front end on the RX-1 and keep it in the lineup (RX-1 front end is the biggest issue with them IMO).

Alot of people (including myself) are judging these new sleds without ever riding one. You may not like the looks or how you sit on an 06.. but get it out in the snow and it may be a whole different ballgame.
Even though I love the things.. I might end up hating them on a trail.. gotta ride one and see.
I can't wait until Yamaha has demo rides on the 06's.
