Fusion, the Apex seat is WAY softer than a IQ. You sink in way more. That make it not as rider forward as the IQ, but way more forward than a Edge or Gen2. Both which put my knees in my elbows. I still own both of those.

My wife loves the APex, she likes the engine breaking and the rider forward. We had an 800 edge and she definately likes the Apex. Called the Edge the OLD style sled. I liked both but prefer the Apex.
Tell her to not just let go of the throttle but just let off slowly and she will like it. I have had a few people ride may Apex and tell me how jerky it is, all because they are 'coasters' on their two strokes. I watch them and they dump the throttle, coast to a stop or slower speed while looking around. That is when the engine breaking will, cause the sled to wt shift to load the skis and get people up set... Understand it and love it, when I ride my two strokes I miss it.

Re: What type of rider is she?
Sounds like she'd have the most fun on a Phazer, it's the lightest, and sounds like it would be fast enough for her.

She's a very non-agressive rider, pretty pokey - I'm always waiting for her. Not very strong, and not willing to muscle a sled at all........ .

just sold my attak and am going back to doo. I did not like the fact that it would not get on top of the snow, always wanting to trench a bit, and also the bottoming out of the rear suspension. the motor was great other than the annoying droning sound at lower speeds on tight rough trails (50km)

good points..
the drone can be somewhat tuned away..and the ripsaw trenches...
add a better track, some mountain width skis, and it improves flotation some...then add a arm protectors and a belly pan protector...more improvement..ultimately rolling the chaincase would help more...

any weights which run less weight will reduce some of the engine breaking...

I would not be scared of the 08 Nytro. As far as the weak front end the same can be said about the Ski-doo REV front end, my bro wiped out one side of the front suspension by clipping a carbide on a rail road track at 5 mph and my buddy wiped his out $1500 damage hitting a curb at slow speeds.
I like the think of the Apex a medium rider forward sled similiar to a Firecat. Alot more aggresive position than the "old school" sleds but not as aggresive as a Nytro or REV. It is still rider forward but you can still kick back and ride the rear of the seat.
I am not a big vector fan, so I would see what she thought of a standard fx nytro?????

I am basically a lifetime Polaris owner that is in the process of making the switch to Yamaha. I have ridden and owned all three other major manufacturer sleds, but never Yamaha. Polaris has disappointed me with lagging tech, and some nagging quality problems. I still own one, 2007 IQ 600 CFI LX - a very nice sled, but a few minor issues.
I am in the process of purchasing a 2007 APEX for my wife to ride. Of course I will jump on it from time to time as well. Can you please give me some detailed information about quality issues, handling, motor, things I should be aware of, oil change frequency - anything at all I should know about the sled - good, and bad. All opinions and comments will be greatly appreciated!
I am all but sold on the sled, but I would like to know what I'm getting myself into here. I have never owned a four stroke.
Thanks.
I switched last year after 10 years on a Polaris, and am happy with my Attak. They work well once set up (all sleds require set up though). But its not magic! It is a bit heavier than I'm used too, and not as much fun as the lighter sleds, but it is an awesome trail sled for sure. I'm just getting into maintenance at 3500 miles (initially, I thought it would not required) but I guess they all need maintenance.
Runs solid, starts well, rides great, and is good on fuel!
What more can you ask for!
My motto is "Enjoy it while you have it!"
Cheers

The best thing you could do for her is to put on a set of pilot skis. Almost like power steering on my 2006 ER. A perfect trail ski, Except they push a little in loose conditions but are predictable.

SJ,
You mentioned being able to "tune away" the drone. Please elaborate.

ditto on the Pilot skis! Way better than the pipe fix that I tried.cwcsrx700 said:The best thing you could do for her is to put on a set of pilot skis. Almost like power steering on my 2006 ER. A perfect trail ski, Except they push a little in loose conditions but are predictable.

not a specific formula but Ive never experienced the drone as my sled had an excell from day one..also I've made some other observations....our ripsaw with every third clipped and wide slides might be a contributor as I ended up fully clipping...
now in putting on a stock muffler back on...another observation....the dead space between the muffler and the heat shield could be acting like a big speaker...I wonder if this are was filled with high temp fiberglass packing might help if its a resonance issue..
another observation is the flimsy brackets holding on the tunnel protectors up front...what if the protectors are out of square or vibrating as the track hits?

SJ, Thanks for your insight. I recall a long thread on the "drone" a while back and everybody had different ideas as to what caused it and how best to fix it.
I don't recall however that anybody came up with a proven solution. Perhaps I will try to dig up that old thread and throw it up on the top of the board again to see if we can learn anything more.
