2007 Attak

I noticed you where thinking of a Polaris 600, the newer Vector has a great motor EPS and many will argue that it handles better cause the motor sits lower, bonus is the gas milage.

Two totally different sleds....if you ride mostly on trail...I would hands down take the attak...depending on your weight, and riding style..have pioneer revalve the shock, and get the correct spring for your weight..I would also recomend Hygear...but I find some of their calibrations more suited for aggressive riding...Also...It takes some miles, and time to get used to the engine braking...but once you do...you will prefer it....you will hardly use your brakes while cornering.

The worst thing about the attak is the skis and track....I would put a set of yamaha dual tuners on it, and put a cobra 1.3 on it....the cobra will slow it down some on top end, but you will gain alot of traction in loose snow, and you will pull off the line much better (better hook up)...the cobra actaully makes the attak some what liveable off trail...but don't kid yourself..it's a heavy sled...this is not the machine you want to go bust powder with...it's a cushy trail cruiser/lake racer.

put an ulmer stage two clutch kit in it....get better mid range acceleration, and back shifting...you will beat up on most older, and some newer 800's on the lake...IT'S FUN!!

The polaris 600...is a fine machine...but is not comparable to the Attak....it's like comparing a toyota camry to a dodge viper .

The 600 polaris will be far better for aggressive riding, and powder busting...it will handle better, and handle rough trails better....for everything else the attak will be better (top speed, fuel economy, small to medium bumps on groomed trails)

I have no ask...since you are looking at the 600 polaris...why not a 2010 or newer vector ltx??? The vector is lighter than the attak...faster than the polaris 600...and will get far better fuel economy...but just like the attak...you should change the ski's out...yamaha dual tuners are the way to go...bascially $250 dollars with carbides...takes the darting out, corners better...trust me on this...the worst thing about any yamaha 4 stroke is hunting, darting, and tracking...dual tuners are a cheap fix for this...if you ride mostly groomed trails.

The best thing you can do is change the skis on the attak....better track....and yamaheaters (hand warmers)

I have a 2012 600 switchback I really like, but I am starting to see the light as to which sled is better suited for him. He is under 200lbs - I saw the 08s on mpls c/l - I would love one of those! lol Too much $ though!

The main reason for the attak is that the rage/vector ltx isn't fuel injected until 2010. A 2012 Vector LTX GT would be ideal with power steering, but the price is more than he wants to spend.

Unfortunately, buying now means paying top $$. However, perhaps you will find someone willing to make a deal. Maybe your dad can trade something he no longer wants along with cash to make a deal. There is a reason Yamaha has a higher resale value than the competition and is a part of the equation when I buy.

You posted your question on TY so naturally the opinions you will get are biased towards Yamaha. I have owned sleds of all makes for 40 years... of the current manufactures I choose Yamaha. My first Yamaha 4-stroke was a new 07 Attak GT. It wasn't perfect out of the box so I gleaned a lot of information from what is available on this site and made it perfect for me. You can accomplish this with any Apex/Attak (LTX) you find... just pay attention to the items others have shared regarding the common concern areas.

I trail ride and stay away from powder deeper than 18". I have never buried my Attak and had to dig out.

My guess is that after riding an Attak for the season, he'll be looking to get into the 2011+ models next year!

FWIW

Doug...."you never buried your attak'? LOL.....Lucky you...cause I have...and for a middle aged guy, out riding by my self...it SUCKED....after that big storm...end of february last year (23 plus inches of wet cement)....I stuck her in the bottom of a ditch line...tug...dig... pull...repeat for about an hour and a half. Damn near gave up and called a tow truck to dig it out...lol Fat...old farts like me...should know their limits...but ...once in awhile I get a bug up my azz, and have to run a ditch, or bust some powder, and once in awhile I get stuck #$%&*

I would not reccomend a 68 year old, go off trail with an attak...unless he has some strong young bucks with him...lol

Haha! Too funny... but that must have SUCKED!

I defer back to "stay away from powder deeper than 18""

Came close a few times...but always kept it moving forward!

Sounds like it will be a great sled for him - just need to seal the deal now.

Thanks all!

Found a 2007 Attak GT for him - real nice lookin' sled imo.

Please share the details.

Are there any upgrades on it? How many miles?

PICS!!

Made a big trip from Eau Claire to Marquette yesterday. My Dad got his first 4S - 2007 Attak GT - really a sharp sled imo.

3500 miles on it. All stock.

3500 miles, should we talk to him about finishing the break in on this new sled?

kidding aside, is a great sled for a trail sled.

Tell him to think of a manual transmission and engine breaking, this will change the compression breaking from a surprise to an additional control technique.

You just can,t dump the throttle and coast. It will act like the breaks are on, the front end will feel darty and the rear loose. Just like you hit the brakes, problem is we are so used to coasting on our two strokes

I love these sleds, myself I am adding a used Vector GT to the fleet. Going to try Yamaha dual runner skis to the Apex and trial of deuce runners on the Vector.

Let it SNOW

Nice! Congrats!

Just like the one I sold last month.

We want you're dad to know he made the right choice of sleds as soon as he hits the trail so be sure to check if the shocks have a good charge and not in need of rebuilding. The clicker knobs will tell the story... should hear and feel a nice crisp "click" when adjusting.

Enjoy!

Nice looking sled you has there, too! Thanks for the heads up on the recharge.
