2008 Ontario TY Ride

I tried to put something together a couple years ago, but seems hard to fit everyone’s schedule. I think Northern Ontario would work great (all fast trails).
Start either in the Wawa area or in the Timmins area and do a loop. Either way, I’m game for anywhere there is snow and a little notice for time off work. I can get a good number of forum members to come as well.

FURTHER NORTH / not always good snow in that area in March !
;)!

yep, was thinking for a good southern start point for those coming south of the border. Loop around via Hornepayne-Hearst-Kap area. My home town areas :flag:

A rainy winter day in the muskoka's is often a rainy day in the far north of Ontario. Really weird weather the past few winters. Lets hope for a good season coming up.

we might be interested if it was alittle closer , like the wawa area . we had talked about joining in until we saw how fara way the haliburton area was . that would be like a 14 hour ride from chicago-ish. we would definitely be up for something a little bit closer!

ya but wawa is also like a 10 hour drive for everybody in our area. once the trails are packed around here there is no problem riding well into march. i have even ridden in april a few times.

How far are the "could be" areas from Huntsville or North Bay? We make a trip up (or two) each year and usually stay in the Huntsville area or North Bay area. Last year we actually (with advice from a fellow TY'er because of snow conditions) stayed a bit south in the Barrie area and it worked out great. If the area is not to much farther than the 5hrs its takes us to get to Huntsville...I am in for a TY ride as well.

It works out to 5hrs 22mins from Buffalo so adjust you travel time from there. That's for the Bancroft area.

well for the origanal ride in the madawaska/barrys bay area its not far from huntsville. its just over an hour through the park to the madawaska area. some of the other areas sugested would be quite a bit further for you. cochran and timmins areas are about 6-7 hours north of north bay.

Thanks guys. I am about an 1.5hrs from Bflo so if Bancroft is 5 hrs 22min from Bflo that wouldnt be a problem at all.

I would have to say Cochran and Timmins would be to much of a hike.

Well...at this point I will just sit back and wait to see where the Ontario ride takes place. Hopefully I'll see some of ya this winter.

Wherever we decide to have the ride i'm sure it will be a good one.
Like I stated before I will be glad to help in putting it together.
I'm only 2 Hrs away from that area and ride it often. If we go there I will list some possible places to stay and where we can all meat for the rides.

What about 500 miles loup, half in Canada and half in the US. I live in Atikokan Ontario (North-east Ontario), about 2 hours west of thunder bay, 6 hours east of Winnipeg, 4 hours North of Duluth, and about 12 hours north of Chicago. Check it out. We got lots of nice trails around here, plus lots of lakes too hit also if you feel like going as fast as you want. But the trails have very little traffic. I'm not sure where all you guys are located, so it might be to far for you. Here check out the info on the loop....

If you want to see some videos about the tour, go to youtube.com and type in "Atikokan Sno-Ho". You will see 4 videos that come up, watch all four. Its Part 1, Part 2, Part 3 and Part 4. This tour was featured on Snowmobiler TV.

P.S. The conditions might not look good in some parts of the video becasue it was taken toward the end of the season.

If you are looking to start around the SOO and Wawa let me know I have connections in Searchmont to keep all trucks and trailers (safe), you can leave from Searchmont stop at Half Way Haven for lunch head to Wawa for the night and keep on riding north , amazing trails, beautiful scenery and very little traffic , even with a big group you can still put on a lot of miles...Most of the guys from the States have to travel to Soo Ontario anyways why not drive the sled to Wawa.. Just depends on what time in the winter you want to do it .....
