Hey there new to the site and new to yamaha, just picked up a 08 venture lite with only 536 KMs on it, it runs good but some times it flashes Er-1 or Er-2, if i wiggle the plug on the back of the speedo i can get them to come off, im thinking it maybe just needs a new wiring harrness? it didnt seem to affect the operation of the sled when i was test riding it but when i got it home it didnt seem to want to go into reverse when it was flashing the Er codes? Or is it possible it wouldnt go into reverse because it hadnt warmed up yet? thanks in advance any info is much appreciated!

Er-1 and Er-2 means a loss of communication between the gauge pod and the ECU. My son's Phazer had Er-1 with a bad ground wire at the battery. But you say that you get it when you wiggle the pod's wiring. I would definitely investigate this further. If the rubber seal wasn't in right, it may have allowed water in and corroded the connectors. Maybe just pull it out and use some electrical contact cleaner in the plug and pod. If that seems to clear it up, put some dielectric grease to prevent further corrosion. If that doesn't help, peel back the tape at the connector and check for broken wiring. It may need to have that part of the harness replaced.

Not sure about that because at some point, they added a new "oil" message. I don't think it would hurt anything. I doubt it would be the pod itself unless the connector inside the pod came unsoldered.

Check the wiring and make sure the connections are good.

it ended up being the speedo, new one in and it seems good to go, having issues with the fuel relay now tho, when its cold i turn the key on and dont hear the fuel pump cycle and it wont start, pull it into heated shop for an hour and fires right up, i understand this is a common problem and they have come out with a better relay to resolve this, only question is what relay is the fuel pump? ive searched through the threads a bit but havnt found a good explanation... pictures would be great, also how hard is it to get at?

It's directly behind the ECM under the battery. Kind of a PITA to get at. Which one it is anybody's guess as the order doesn't seem to stay the same but is always in the top row. You could try to feel which one it is by the click it does when it cycles (that's what I did) or by the wiring colour. The new solid state relay number is 8GN-81950-00-00.

According to the wiring diagrams it has a RED/BLUE and BLACK wires going to it.
