I've been told that the 2009 MTX's have 16.5" shocks vs. the 2008's which had 17.5" shocks.
Did all the 2009 Nytro gets shorter shocks or just the MTX's?
Why did Yamaha do this?

I took these measurements from my OEM shocks:
2008 FX Nytro RTX 40th Anniversary:
Front shock extended length 445 mm (17.52") stroke n/a.
Center shock extended length 326 mm (12.83") stroke 85 mm (3.35").
Rear shock extended length 426 mm (16.77") stroke 139 mm (5.47").
2009 FX Nytro RTX SE:
Front shock extended length 445 mm (17.52") stroke n/a.
Center shock extended length 326 mm (12.83") stroke 85 mm (3.35").
Rear shock extended length 417 mm (16.42") stroke 130 mm (5.12").
The only difference I can see is that the rear shock got 9 mm (0.35") shorter extended length and stroke, thereby keeping the same compressed length. What does the tech update manual say about 2008 vs. 2009 shock absorber length...?

Is anything else different between the 2 years. You think I could use an 09 shock in an 08?

Yes you can. Shocks didn't change on rtx models just the mtn as they were really dropping the nose for better handling. So Yamaha helped with 1" shorter shock

From my experience all non mountain/mtx nytros run 17.5" front ski shocks. Typically all Yamaha mountain sleds have a narrower front end which yields shorter shocks and shorter a arms.
