Hey guys I'm looking into buying a nytro probably a 09. I'm a skidoo guy switching over to a 4 stroke
. what I'm wondering is what do
I need too look for when I go and look at one? I have done lots of reading about these machines but need more of the hands on approach from others who have one and know about the Nytro's. I hoping to go look at one next weekend. Thanks.

Definitely try a search on the front suspension. It is the Nytro's weak point, from the handling, A arm bushings, ball joints and subframe.
Once these areas are adressed, this can be one heck of a machine.

If you're planning on buying a used one, which I would recommend, I'd look for one that has a few good modifications. Good mods would be stuff like...
-The extra tunnel heat exchanger from the MTX nytro.
-A trailtank, or something to carry extra fuel (stock is 100 mile range)
-A tunnel block off plate, to prevent bad tunnel icing.
-larger 135mm wheels, and extra wheels, to prevent hyfax wear.
-A 4th rear axle wheel is important in my opinion, so if you do break an outside axle wheel off you can still limp it home.
-Yamaheater handwarmer upgrade...stock is pathetic my most peoples standards.
-Some bags for storage, windshield, handlebar, saddlebags. Stock there is none.
-Custom shock valving would be great to find on a used sled...stock sucks.
-different skis
-Anti ratchet drivers on a rtx, not necessary on an xtx
also, read this http://www.ty4stroke.com/viewtopic.php? ... +skidplate
When buying a used nytro, at about 3000 to 4000 miles, just figure on replacing the exhaust donuts, a-arm bushings and ball joints. Maybe you'll get more, or less miles than that, but they don't last long. The more aggressive you ride, the sooner they wear out of course.
None of this stuff is totally necessary, and some people are perfectly happy with a bone stock nytro. But if you could find a nice used one with some good stuff on it, it would save you some cash later

Ya, you are right, some of it is un-necessary.... A trail tank is not needed. For the most part you can always find gas within a 100 miles. The Tunnel protectors are not needed. My XTX never over heats and that is with taking my 3 year old for a ride going only 15-25mph in low snow conditions. If you are looking for all out top speed, then yes the idlers are good and yes it will save a little on hyfax. Byt once the hyfax gets to a certain point, they stop wearing, unless you are constantly driving in conditions that have little to no snow. Handwarmers, mine are stock and they work. Not great, but not bad. I have rideen on -30 days where I got frost bite and my hands were not what I was complaining about. More about my new BRP modular helmet, which, got me frost bite.
Skis are a preferrence as well. The stockers can be adjusted to work well. Shim the skis and run snow trackers or bergstrom tripple points.
Farmer, the list you have is a little over the top.... I suspect your list for the E-tec will be the same if not more, once you blow it up.... hahahaha....
I don't think it's necessary to put the fear of God in him, thinking his sled is going to need 2000g in upgrades just to go riding.... That is totally un true.

Totally agree on this....I did put skis on mine but that's because I had them and prefer aftermarket skis....but not a necessity if you shim and put the right runner on it. I have an RTX, which I'm told is very stiff, ecspecially the floats over stutter bumps....never had an issue. A trail tank is not a necessity either unless you ride in areas where gas stations are far and few between....I may add one to mine but generally never have an issue....worst I got was around 90 miles to a tank in bad conditions ( wet, mild day )..when I found gas it turned out I had plenty left. These sleds are great, comfortable, tons of grunt to 90mph, good on gas and with some suspension tuning ( and I mean making adjustments, not adding this and that ) these sleds handle great.

That wasn't a list of things he needs to add to his new nytro, it was just a list of things he could look for in a used sled. I saw plenty of used nytros with lots of those extras on them and also some with no extras for about the same price.
My hyfax didn't stop wearing at a certain point, they would wear completely through, not slowing down at all. 135mm wheels fixed it for me. Maybe I just drive faster than you sledfreak? I imagine if I slowed down and created less heat they might last longer...I dunno?
I do have quite the list for my etec, I have a couple more things I need to pick up once I pick the sled up, but for the most part I'm about done. Yeah, it will probably blow up eventually, but I have a good dealer and they'll get her running again. Nytros blow up too you know...maybe you just don't hear about it as much because there are not even close to as many of them on the snow.

I highly doudbt that.... It's pretty much a race everytime I'm out, with my buddies and I don't lose to often and they all have more hp, then I do. Pretty much avg speeds of 70-100+ on the trails I ride, depending on the length of the straight away. Plus, I have the speeding tickets to prove it.....

haha, I'm just giving you a hard time.
Speeding tickets huh... We don't have speed limits around here. I think there is at night, in certain areas. But I've never heard of anyone getting a speeding ticket on sled.

you have it nice, we have a limit of 50km (30mphish) its a total joke no one ever does it unless the trails are beat or there is Police ahead with the radar guns waiting. And since ontario is super stupid, if you are caught doin 100km/h+ which is easy as pie half the time you get your sled impounded for recklace driving charge. Our country is going to be a nanny state soon enough.

I don't know about your sled being impounded. I've never heard of it.
I got tagged a couple of years ago doing 120kph (railbed), but the ticket I got was for going over the posted speed limit of 50kph. The actual speed wasn't marked on the ticket at all. The cop told me that this ticket doesn't go on my record...I hope.
