Speeding tickets huh... We don't have speed limits around here. I think there is at night, in certain areas. But I've never heard of anyone getting a speeding ticket on sled.
you have it nice, we have a limit of 50km (30mphish) its a total joke no one ever does it unless the trails are beat or there is Police ahead with the radar guns waiting. And since ontario is super stupid, if you are caught doin 100km/h+ which is easy as pie half the time you get your sled impounded for recklace driving charge. Our country is going to be a nanny state soon enough.
not true fella...speeding under the MSVA is a $110 set fine and no points..also, it will NOT appear on your driving record...it's not like the HTA where the fine changes depending on the speed...the 50km/h over the posted limit only applies to cars..which is an HTA offence...

You'll need to take out "country" and put in province. What is true in Ontario is not true in Manitoba.

well I guess if it is only a $110 fine and if it doesn't go on your driving record and stuff then its not such a huge deal, but still sucks

I don't think they can impound the sled. It's only a set fine of 110.00 bucks and no points. Last winter, they caught me doing 160km in a 50Km and all they did was give me a lecture and gave me a fine and I was on my way.
I cant pass this up. Is that you in your Avatar catching big air ~ under your skirt..lollangow said:we have a limit of 50km (30mphish)

It's ok, It's not true in Ontario either, lol..... Unless he's driving a car down the trail at 100kph, lol

I am not speaking from experience, i am only telling you what the OPP officer told me last time they stopped us @ the check point; we asked them what happens if you break the 50 above the limit (so 100km/h) and that what i was told. Recklace driving charge and impound. Not saying its right, but if the OPP thinks that the way it is then who am i to argue with the officer, its not gonna do anything except piss him off and get him looking at my sled to find a reason to give me a ticket.
I dont stick to 50km/h unless i'm in or around town, silly to go so slow in the bush.
Yes i meant to say ontario not all of canada, just the nannys we have here in ontario running the show.
I hope this clears up what i meant, my bad.

Sounds lucky , Well honestly i hope i don't ever have to find out, when i see people on the trail i just slow down till i can tell who it is and if its a problem to go faster than 50 of not. There are spots where 50km is fine but many more where is crazy slow.

I gave Ontario's ORV act a quick read and it is actually very similar to Manitoba. I believe this is the charge the officer was talking about:
Careless driving
16. Every person who drives an off-road vehicle without due care and attention or without reasonable consideration for other persons is guilty of an offence. R.S.O. 1990, c. O.4, s. 16.
This is pretty much the same as Manitoba if not identical. This is why some guys might report the same fine regardless of speed. The officers may be using a speed timing device to support why they are charging you with this offence as it is pretty subjective.
As for ditches. I believe they are included in the definition of the roadway so any speed limit applied to the roadway would also be applied to the ditch. So in theory you could be charges under the HTA for speeding. (But I'm not sure this is ever put into practice.)
Boy are we off topic

Snowmobiling doesn't fall under that act..it's under the MSVA ( motorized snow vehicles act ) and while ditches are part of the roadway ( fence line to fence line ) it would still fall under the MSVA for speeding as it is on a prescribed trail..even though it runs along a highway..the only way to impound the sled in a speeding situation would be to arrest for the criminal offence of dangerous driving, but it would be very difficult to prove based on speed alone, even with a careless charge you would need to prove the driver was not showing due care and control...again hard to prove based on just speeding.

So it IS completely different then Manitoba. Manitoba is under our off road vehicles act.
But I never said anything about impounding sleds and I also said speed could be used to "support" a charge of careless.

I off-road in my Power Wagon in the ditches beside the highways up here because there's good mud. The RCMP were looking for me at one point, they found some of my friends and yelled at them but they didn't give me up! Priceless. I ran into them later and told them my friends relayed the message to me, so no need to explain, and the officer said "good" and walked away. Now there's new officers in that area I was in, so that's what gets me by when I camp down there and go off roading in the ditches LMAO!
