Hi All,
I just bought a used Venture RS in very good shape. We went out for the first time this year just for a little ride for about 1 hour and I notice that when I put the sled in reverse it goes in reverse and everything works great, then I insert it back in forward, the beeping stops and sounds like the sled will go forward but it stays in reverse. I've done a search online for this issue but I wasn't able to find anything. The only way that I was able to get the sled going forward was to stop the sled and then restart it and goes forward. Is this normal for this model? I have a 07 Apex and I never had to stop the sled after putting it in reverse to allow it to go forward.
Any help would be great. Thanks in advance.

sounds like you need to check the linkage adjustment.

Thanks maim for the response. I don't hear any grinding though when I change from forward to reverse and vice versa.

could be normal. i know mine will not switch into reverse if there is any tension/load on the track.

This is another first time situation that I've read about on this board. Usually it's hard to get it into reverse which calls for a slight loosening of the chain tension. I wonder if you need to TIGHTEN the chain tension a bit? There are two little springs that push the gear away to get to going forward again (or is it the other way around?) Maybe a little more tension gets those springs working better? I guess it could be a linkage adjustment. These reverse systems on this sleds are VERY touchy form an adjustment standpoint.
Did this just start happening?
Are you the original owner of the sled?
Do you know if the chaincase has ever been taken apart?

Very bizarre indeed, first time for everything right?
I will have a look at the chain tension and see if making any small adjustments will resolve the issue.
I just recently purchased the sled. So I will reach out to the guy who sold it to me and ask him the question. It's unfortunate that I did not realize the issue when I went to see the sled. I mean I went for a small ride forward then put it in reverse to back it up but I did not insert it back in forward and hit the gas. I will advise all with what I find out.

The more I think about this the more that I think another poster on here suggested, your linkage must be really really sloppy. There's another guy on this board I'm gonna ask him to take a look at this thread and get his opinion. His name is Grizztracks.Yep everytime

If you have to stall the engine to get it to come out of reverse then the belt may be engaging at idle and putting pressure on the drive gears. Does the belt squeal at an idle? If so then you need to remove the 3 shims behind the secondary clutch to drop the belt giving it more free play. Also make sure the idle is set correctly, the clutches are clean and functioning properly and the chain is adjusted properly. If none of that is the cause then try shortening the upper linkage rod slightly and if that doesn't help the case needs to be opened to inspect gears, chain and springs. There is a large spring and bolt that pushes against the lower shift gear and holds it in the forward positions until the shift fork pulls out against it to shift into reverse.

The belt doesn't squeal at at idle. I will get a friend of mine to help me and check the idle and the clutches. We will go through all the suggestions from grizztracks and hopefully we will find the culprit. More to come....

X2 - have a look at the action when you pull the reverse handle back ... on mine, i ended up adjusting the lower linkage to lengthen it a bit... so far so good.
